Which sunscreen do you like best?

I figure that I need to get some new sunscreen for my upcoming cruises and was wondering what brand everyone was using and why.

For instance, I have generally used Australian Gold SPF 15 and 30. I like the smell, it lasts thru swimming and sweating, and I don't break out from it. It does sting the eyes when I start to sweat though.

Does anyone have any brand that they 'won't leave home without'?

My DS burns very easily. We live in Sth Florida so everyday he goes to camp or a sporting game we have to sunscreen him up. We have found that the Banana Boat Ultra 30 works the best.

This summer I could not find the black tube of Banana Boat so I called Banana Boat and they told me the formula I wanted was called Ultra and they repackaged it this year in a white tube. They are the ones who told me it had an additional ingredient in it that there other products don't have. Target makes one comparable but it doesn't blend into your skin as well.

For the face we all swear by the Banana Boat face stick with a SPF of 30. When you sweat it doesn't drip into your eyes and you can easily put it on close to your eyes without the fear of it going it. We've tried the Bull Frog stick and it stunk in mho.

Be safe, the sun can be so harmful to your skin!!

I buy the Skin So Soft from Avon that is a bug and sun repellant. It comes in SPF15 & SPF30. It is not greasy or smelly, either.

I have been using Banana Boat Surf all summer for DS who is very fair and spends all day swimming and boating. I just put it on him in the morning and I haven't been having to reapply - it is supposedly an 8 hour sunscreen. DS has not had a single sunburn (even mild) all summer so that's what I'm going with.

I use "No Ad" brand SPF 45. Most drug stores like Walgreens carry it. It's the cheapest you can buy, has no odor, and is greaseless. I wouldn't use anything less than SPF 30 though.

My children are very fair skinned and I have had skin cancer, so I am very carefull when it comes to the sun.

What I have found to be wonderful is Banana Boat Sport SPF 50 ultra sweat protetion. I also love the stick form for the checks, nose, around the eyes.

We used to use Banana Boat until one day I picked up CVS own brand. It's in a spray container, SF 40. Works wonderful (and we all are fair skinned) and sprays on so smoothly.

We still use the Banana Boat stick for DD's fair Irish face.

THe sunscreens to look for with fair skinned kids like my two freckled face boys is something with an SPF over 30 and some kind of waterproof claim. It is also important to have titanium dioxide as one of the ingredients. Although the titinium dioxide may appear more whiteish while you rub it in it is a physical blocker and not a chemical blocker for UVA and UVB rays. This is also important to help prevent sunburn and sun damage. Our personal choice this year is Banana Boat Surf. SPF 30, waterproof and has 3 Percent TD. Good stuff and we will be carrying that on our cruise on the 28th.

We like the Ozone series from Hawaiian Tropic. For days when we aren't going into the water, we use the 70 SPF. Otherwise, it's the Ozone Sport 60+. The littlest one uses HT's Baby Faces 60+, and it's waterproof :)

We live in Texas and LIVE in the sun in the summertime.. and we wouldn't go without Bullfrog spray (so much better than lotion- not as hard to apply it, stays on longer, etc.) and also the Bullfrog stick for their faces. My sister is the same way... our children never burn even being out in the Texas sun all day -day after day. (even at water parks- we just reapply it a few times in 8-10hrs in the sun getting in and out of the water).

Our children are not fairskinned really (except maybe my super white without even any tan lines 4yr old-STILL even though summer is "over" for us now!! --a testiment to how well it works) but my sister also babysits 2 very fair skinned redhead freckled girls that go with us constantly- and they have never burned (nor tanned for that matter) using this.

Recommend it to everyone... wouldn't leave the house (or go in the backyard) without it. :)

The coppertone sport in the blue plastic bottle.

Have used it for years..it is excellent. Stays on in the water, and sweat.

We use Coppertone sport too, it blends in really easily, and doesn't have that glue-like consistency. We also use Coppertone spray. It is super easy to apply and doesn't require rubbing in. That's what we bring with us to the beach to re-apply over the day. Nothing worse than rubbing on sun-block when you have gritty sand on your skin. It's also great for scalps and parts.

Coppertone Endless Summer Ultrasheer Sunscreen. I hate the way sunscreen feels on my skin, that heavy, thick, sticky feeling especially when you sweat. This stuff really feels sheer, almost powdery feeling when it goes on. The kids love it too as it doesn't feel as "icky" when it goes on. The only caution is it will stain white fabrics, it's sort of a yellow color, so put it on before getting dressed. You should apply sunscreen a 1/2 hour before sun exposure anyway.::yes::

My husband swears by the 'Coppertone Sport 48' sunscreen. He's tried many & says that it is the only thing that keeps him from burning & withstands his sweating - he's a builder & living in FL he's in the sun ALL of the time.

I have heard from many down here that 'Bullfrog', that was mentioned before, is really good.

(Windermere - I sent you a PM)

Coppertone Sport in Blue bottle as well! Been using it on my fair skinned red headed child for years. Stays on a long time in the water. It was recommended 10-years ago by a dermatologist and I have stuck with it.

Wow, I guess Banana Boat is the most popular brand out there. I'll have to give it a try before we leave just to make sure I won't break out from it.

They were all recently rated in the paper and I can't remember the good ones but the worst rated one was the No-AD ones....sold in discount type stores like kmart etc so basically that is like the only one I don't use...right now we are using coppertone with big repellent since my daughters darn mosquito allergy!

Coppertone spray sport here. It's in a blue bottle. It goes on clear, and lasts through swimming and sweating. I bought it to go between DD's hair braids on our first cruise, and I haven't bought anything else since then. Good stuff!

tkd lisa,

Thanks for the reminder on putting sunscreen on DD scalp after braiding!!! DD is pretty fair and would get a horrible sunburn if I didn't apply sunscreen on her tender scalp!:sunny: princess:
