Which state would you sell?

I'm really pretty shocked to see my state on the list. Do you honestly think you could find anyone in the world willing to buy Alabama? I mean spend actual money to aquire Alabama? Why? :rotfl:

The offshore leases of Tx, Ala, and Ms provide money, as in LOTS of money, and energy; I think there would be more bidders than you could imagine.:)

Income generation wasn't my prime motivation. :rotfl:

I have to take exception to selling Texas. I have lived in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, and Florida. And if I could only keep one of those states, it would definitely be Texas.

Well good riddance! :)

We'll take our $970 gabillion dollars in oil and divide it equally amongst all 625,000 of us.

But do you realize how much land you are giving up??

Yay!!!! :thumbsup2

I looked up which states got the most Federal monies per dollar SENT to Washington (& it was an eye-opener).

#1 in money gotten back is NEW MEXICO at $2.03
#2 is MISSISSIPPI at $2.02

The two states that get LESS back per ONE DOLLAR sent in to the US Treasury are:
NEVADA at 65 CENTS
and (drumroll please)
NEW JERSEY at 61 CENTS

(This is 2005 data according to http://www.taxfoundation.org/research/show/22685.html.)

agnes!

No wonder NJ is broke and our taxes are the highest in the nation.

Well, if you're looking to dump those most ignorant populations.......Alabama would certainly be on the list! LOL :rotfl:

When we would come back from visiting family in PA, upon seeing the welcome to Alabama sign my husband would say "Welcome to Alabama, please set your watch back 100 years" ~grin~

Ummm, wouldn't that be a CALENDAR you set back?

hehehehehe

Louisiana...only because it seems too late sometimes to restore it. :confused3

not our fault- Federal government is holding up our money. Trust me, we would have been restored already if it was possible;)

but hey- maybe that's how we can save ourselves--leave the US, then we would get to build our levees and marshes back how we want?! hummmmm:idea:

I'd make all of our territories go out on their own and be self-sufficient--no more bennies without taxes for them (Puerto Rico, US VI, Guam, etc)

Should free up a lot of $$$$ for States.

You didn't just go there, did you?

Please hold while I dig out my High School and College Puerto Rican history, government, and economy books. As well as some Trías Monge

USVI residents pay federal income tax (OMG!).

Puerto Rico and Guam have almost identical tax and revenue structures. Their residents pay federal tax indirectly through payments made by their respective revenue departments to the Fed. This is not counting the the large minorities that pay directly to the fed due to either being federal employees, or derive income from mainland US sources (At least 30% in PR, I'm not sure about Guam, but I would estimate about the same). This is ON TOP OF paying some of the highest state income taxes in that any US residents have to pay (by my estimation, if I paid PR state income tax, I'd be paying 38%).

So rather than get nasty, I'll just sit smugly satisfied that I've given you a clue.

Have a magical day :wizard:

if we were to sell off California to someone else, we'd have to square off a prerimeter around Disneyland and say, "we keep this; the rest is yours!!":rotfl:

And besides, nothing in the west; it's too beautiful.

And not Florida!!! I live there!! And besides, there's Disney World.
