Planning to ride Star Tours but not any of the SWGE rides. Kids (7 and 9) have never seem any of the Star Wars movies and I’ve only watched the first three back in the day. If we watch one SW movie before we leave for our trip next week, which should it be? Is ST still worth it if you haven’t seen any of the movies?

I would do the Force Awakens. It’s the first of recent trilogy. Also it’s quite similar in plot to first Star Wars movie. But you get a lot of the characters in it.

I think it is worth it even if you haven't seen any of the movies. It is a fun experience, although it is probably more fun if you have some idea what is going on.

depends on when you go. Right now all the pods are fixed with the latest, The Rise of Skywalker, scenes. So I would watch that like right now, if it's still in theaters in your area. If you are coming later in the year then it'll be completely random.

I would say The Force Awakens because it is the first movie of the new generation and is what the Star Wars universe at Disney is based upon, with the First Order and the Resistance. That being said, The Empire Strikes Back is the best of all the movies.

We will be at DHS on 2/22 but don't have time to hit the theaters so it will need to be a film we can watch at home.

You'll get scenes from rise of Skywalker, so watching any of the other movies really won't make much of a difference

The Phantome Mence...because I"m a monster.

Jk. Either Episode IV for being the first of the first or Episode 7 if you plan on exploring GE (even if you don't plan on doing the attractions).

I think any Star Wars viewing endeavor should begin with A New Hope, but that's just me. Other posters are right, that more of the Star Wars related stuff in the parks is more aligned with the sequel trilogy, so Force Awakens would also be a good choice.

Why not watch them all?
DH and I decided to, started with Episode 1, then went to 3, Rogue 1, picked up with 4 and finished 6 last night.
We'll catch the next 2 over the next 2 nights and then go see Rise of Skywalker again before it's out of the theaters.
We haven't watched them all straight through since Rogue 1 came out. We watched them with DGD

They won't have any bearing on ST right now but still tell the overall story throughout the land

If you want specific info for GE, read/listen to the Black Spire Outpost book. Maybe on your trip if you are driving?

To have SWGE make any sense at all because you will see it and walk through it, see Force Awakens. That way when they see the Stormtroopers wandering the streets, the character makes some sense because the kids saw them in the movie.

Do you and the kids know who the following are- BB8, Kylo Ren, Chewy, C3P0, R2D2, Rey? If you know the majority then you have what you need for stuff to make sense.

I think they know some of the basic characters - my son did read the Golden Books version of the series when he was little! We will try to get though New Hope and/or Force Awakens before we leave. Thanks so much for the advice!

We are watching (re) Force Awakens right now. I agree with a PP, If you only have time for 1, watch that. Kylo is in GE. And they'll understand the BB units too. GE has the First Order and Resistance vs Empire

I can't help with what movie to watch but my kids (8 and 9) have not seen any of the star wars movies and they LOVE Star Tours and are excited to go to GE on our next trip.

I don't know about the connection to the parks, but we recently coaxed my daughters (ages 9 and 14) to watch A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back. They really disliked both of them and refuse to participate in any more Star Wars "entertainment." I'm thinking we should have done the most recent trilogy. For kids of this generation, the graphics are cheesy, the story is overly simplistic, and it seems a little sexist.

Binge them all on a weekend! But if not, I agree with the Force Awakens. You will most likely see Chewie and Stormtroopers wandering around SWGE. My son is 6 and the only one he saw before our trip was The Last Jedi. After our trip he was totally hooked and we watched them all in Episode order.
