Which side of the ship?

When you dock, if you want to see land from your room or veranda, which side should your cabin be on? I know I've seen a post or two on this, but I just can't remember what was said. Please let us know either left or right side if you are standing at the aft and looking forward. (I could find out what starboard and port are, but I would have to call DH at work to find out. He's the navy guy, but he won't be home for hours and it is bugging me. LOL) Thanks!

Depends on where you're docking and whether the ship goes in forward or backward! On our last two cruises, the captain backed into Castaway Cay and our stateroom was on the left (port) side so we didn't get a view of the beach. On our next cruise we've got a stateroom on the right (starboard) but knowing my luck, we'll go forward into Castaway Cay and I still won't get the view !! LOL!!

Ok, so port is on the left side. So you would think that the view would be on the left side, too. But as you said, they back in making the view on the right. (if they always back in) Thanks for letting me know!

They generally back in at St Maarten and St Thomas. The better view would be from the starboard side for those two ports. But sometimes they pull in at those ports.

At Castaway Cay, whether they pull in or back in seems to depend on the tide tables... it's the luck of the draw for you.

We cruised in Jan 2001 and again in Jan 2002. The 1st cruise we were able to choose our room. The 2nd we could not. I was disappointed because in 2001 we had an absolutely beautiful view at each port. Of course we were booked on the opposite side of the ship in 2002. Guess what? Again we had the best views! It all depends on things you have no control over, ie. navigational stuff. Go and enjoy yourself! Any view, when you are onboard Disney Magic, is great.

Maybe Disney needs to design a ship with revolving rooms. Ha Ha.
From what I hear you are not in your room enough for it to even matter. If you want a view just walk up on deck. I wish that was the only thing to worry about on my list of questions for example how the hell do you add those smiley faces to your text. Should I choose the bouncy one? or the wave?
Hey relax and have a great time. "don't worry bout a ting mon"

No worries. thanks for the info! We "drew" a room on the starboard side. My fingers are crossed. LOL

In general, the captains prefer to back in to the dock (this was told to us by the 2nd officer on a tour of the bridge which we took on our last cruise - before 9/11) because it makes it easier to leave in a hurry if the need arises (no need to turn the ship around after backing out). The decision is left up to the captain and is always made at the time of docking according to conditions in effect. Since backing in is the preferred method, the starboard side is usually the best bet for a great view of the ports. Good luck and enjoy your cruise.

so I sleep in until like 10 or 11 each morning because seldom am I in before 3 or 4 each morning... and I have to tell you no matter if you are looking at the port or at endless ocean when you wake up , there is nothing like it... just puts a smile on my face :)
