Which should I buy? AKV vs Riviera

We’re strongly considering buying direct at RIV. Could you please explain what you mean about getting 2019 points? When you buy, don’t you just get immediate access to that year’s points (in this case, 2021 points)? Thanks!

I bought an August use year (UY) contract in March 2019. The resort opened in December 2019, so the points that would be eligible to book when the resort opened were August 2019 since the August 2020 points weren’t active yet until the following August after the resort opened. We couldn’t use our August 2019 points for any stays at any resorts before the opening date in December 2019 even though we saw them in our account. The UY turned over in August 2020. This was an old post which no longer applies. No one is still in their 2019 UY. Some are in 2020 and some are in 2021 depending on the month. For example, February and March contracts have already started their 2021 UY’s while April-December are still in their 2020 use years. If you bought an April-December Riviera contract today from Disney, they would include 2020 points. February and March wouldn’t since the UY has already turned over.
