Which section of SSR for us?

We are a family of 4 (me, DH, DSs 6 & 4) and will be staying at SSR for the last part of our vacation in January. We have stayed in all of the other DVC resorts (except AKL) so I am not crazy about being unfamiliar with a resort. What section of SSR do you like to stay in and why? What would you recommend for our family? We would like to be close to the main pool and DTD (preferably in walking distance). All help is greatly appreciated!!!

My favorite section is the Grandstand for a couple of reasons. It is the first bus stop for the parks and second stop for DTD/TL. I like being first on/first off. Next, it has it's own themed pool with a snack bar and mug refill station and this may be enjoyable to your children just as much as the main pool. Last, it is not too bad of a walk to the Westside of DTD and is not far at all to the main pool, restaurants, the boat to DTD and Carraige House.

If you want closest to the main area, then the Springs is what you want. However, it is the last bus stop and can be full at times, even to the point that busses do not stop due to being full. Congress Park gives you walking access to the marketplace at DTD and a nice view across the lake to DTD. As far as being close to the main area, it is similar to the Grandstand, maybe just a little farther away.

In any of these sections, it of course depends on which building you are in as to how far or close you are to something.

Here is a map with the walking distances which may help put things into perspective.

Thanks vandy! If we choose the Grandstand is there a certain building you are partial to?

Either of the two next to the Backstretch Pool. They are rooms in the 8100 to 8400 range, and 8500 to 8800 range. The bus stop is just outside of building 8100-8400, but the other building is a little close to the main area and boat dock.

We always stay in Congress Park. It is less then a 10m. walk to DD and right next to a quiet pool. The main pool, and main bldg, are about a 5m. walk as well. Hope that helps! :goodvibes

If the main pool & DTD is important. I would suggest the Springs. The Springs are close to all of the main buildings (including the community house - games, arts & crafts etc) and the pool, plus you can easily get to the boat launch which will take you to DTD.

I vote for the Grandstand. Great quiet pool, close to the Carriage House, first bus stop!:thumbsup2

Dennis-

I also vote Grandstand, great play area at pool, short walk to main pool and first bus stop. Also if you need to get to DTD/main pool just get on any bus headed for a park and then just get off at Congress Park or the Springs bus stop. I have done this to get to the main pool and then take the short walk back.

Jim.
