I've seen tons of info on medications for seasickness through numerous threads. I thought it would be interesting (not to mention informative) to take a poll on which medications people took and how it worked.

Thanks for your input.
Greg

Nothing and we were expecting to be sick, we were armed with everything and used nothing.

ENJOY

For our very first cruise..I took dramamine before heading to the port..and had sea bands with. I had to put the sea bands on the first night..as I got my sea legs..didn't have to wear them again..or take dramamine the rest of the cruise (7nights)

Second cruise..took dramamine before heading to the port..not thing the rest of the time. (3 night)

Ginger pills- and they worked.

What about kids? Do they fare better than adults when it comes to sea sickness? I will check with my 6 year old DGS's doctor, but was wondering what doctors usually tell you about kids that age and sea sickness. I've heard about the green apples and like the idea of using something other than medication. Can anyone comment on kids and sea sickness?

Btw, on our last two cruises, I took Bonine for the entire trip and I was fine.

Thanks,
Tink

Bonine is great - no droziness or any kind of problems for us. We take it every day, every cruise. And we've been on some rockin' and rollin' cruises.

can you drink while taking it?

DH and I took meclazine (Bonine) every single day of our cruise last summer. It did not make us drowsy, AND we were able to drink while taking it.

Our sons are joining us on our cruise this summer (in 2 weeks!), and our pediatrician said it was perfectly fine for DSs to take meclazine while on the cruise. Our DSs are 16 and 13, though. Just to be sure, I'd give your pediatrician a call, Greg!!

P.S. You should start taking the Bonine the day BEFORE you sail, and then continue taking it each morning, during the cruise because it's much better, and easier, to prevent seasickness than to try and treat it once it hits you. Take it even on the days you are in a port. The idea is to keep a steady flow of the medication in your system.

I had no need on the cruise, but I sometimes get motion sickness on rides, and Bonine works every time

Oops, I think I clicked the wrong button. I used Dramamine 2 (the long acting version) and it worked. I checked the top one, but I think I should have checked the Bonine one, since the formula is different. Oh well, just know that your poll is off by one.

I used nothing and was fine, but my DW used Bonine (and Sea-Bands when she needed a little extra) and was fine for the whole cruise.

I used the Sea Calm (I believe it's the same as Bonine) they give out at Guest Services and the Med Clinic. It worked great, except I couldn't drink when I took it. The first time I had an alcoholic beverage while taking the medicine it knocked me out.

I bought ginger capsules for our next cruise, but will pack Bonine just in case.

My DS (almost 6 on our last cruise) never felt sick at all.

The entire group of us (7) used the Sea Bands and they were great. No problem with any adult beverages wearing these things :D

Our children have not yet been on a cruise but two of them experience motion sickness. I use Ginger Snaps. They taste good (no medicine taking hassle), seem to work and there's no side effect except weight gain.

I used a combo of sea bands and ginger capsules and had no trouble. This was compared to our first cruise where I only used the bands and got sick the first night.

All the adults took meclizine the first day or two, but at least a few of us had a strange tiredness, but were unable to nap. Don't like the stuff much. Gave the kids the chewable Dramamine (dimenhydrinate) and it made them very sleepy. Quit taking anything after a few days and we were fine, but the seas as we went South were much calmer. I have used Scopalamine in the past and it gives a very dry throat and strange dreams, again kind of that waking sleepiness, watching yourself dream when you do sleep.

I never expected to get sea sick. I live at the beach - and am on and off boats all summer long....but I did during our cruise on the Wonder! I used Dramamine and then had a glass of wine with dinner (which was about 1/2 hour after I took it) and I felt completely loopy - just out of it.

At night in bed was the worst I believe - it was like head spins....my daughter would laugh because she would hear me slap my foot on the floor, or my hand on the wall - it felt like I was going to be tossed out of a moving bed!

Next time I will consult with my Dr. and take something different.

My DD4 - never had one problem with being sea sick - loved every minute of it :p

Sea sick - loopy and all - I can't wait to go again::yes::

I get very, very car sick. But I didn't get sick once on the 7 night!!!

I used dramamine less drowsy formula. I took one in the morning and one in the late afternoon (5 ish). I did this the entire trip.

When I did feel the movement of the ship a few times, I used my eletronic wrist bands and it seemed to help.

One of the at sea days was very rocky. One of those days where the pools turn into wave pools. The best place not to feel it was in the pool.

The deep sea fishermen in my family say to always keep your stomach full. That shouldn't be a problem on any cruise!
