Which school rules did you hate the most?

In elementary school--no slacks/pants for girls. Those playgrounds in Ohio were downright frigid in the winter. Ultimately, during winter we were allowed to wear pants under our dresses out to play, but the first couple of years it was a big nope.

In high school--no jeans except on game Fridays.

Really didn't have a lot of rules, and none that I hated.

Graduation requirements: 5 English classes, 3 math classes

I took 6 math classes and was very annoyed that I had to take that many English classes.
My kids were sure happy they had those English classes (5) when they hit college and they knew how write a paper when their classmates from schools with lower English requirements had no clue.

Catholic school uniforms. Not so much the uniform, but back when I went we had to wear some sort of brown leather shoe. Girls were allowed to wear certain types with buckles, and boys had to wear lace up ones with gum rubber outsoles that were pretty ugly. There was no specific style, but cruisers were the easiest to find. Pretty much the only place that we could find any were at Stride-Rite. I remember my first few days I wore sneakers until the teachers took me aside and said the uniform included brown leather shoes.

And the pants were hard to get. It was original salt and pepper slacks that we could only find at one place that specialized in Catholic school uniforms. Later our school shifted to grad corduroy, which were a lot easier to find and where we could choose from any brand we wanted as long as it wasn't too flashy with excessive decoration. But for individuality we could wear different jackets to school, although for some reason the Derby jacket became popular with most of the boys.

Another was that we had this district policy of dropping grades for unexcused absences. Just two unexcused absences drops a letter grade, even if there's no instruction going on. I never cut class, but once I had a problem and missed one class. Some of my friends had a plan to skip class on the last day, especially since there's nothing going on and they wouldn't lose a grade. So I was stuck there.

The only rule I remember hating was in my Freshman and Sophomore years. Underclassmen couldn't go off campus for lunch. I had quite a few friends that were juniors and seniors so I really despised that rule. I snuck out twice hiding on the floor of the backseat (what a rebel, lol :smokin:) but then they started looking in cars so my gig was up after I heard a couple of sophomores getting detention.

I went to a Catholic school so pretty much all of them :thumbsup2
Yup! Saddle shoes, no shorts for girls until my last year (we were in Florida).

When I got to public school, there was a rule that shorts couldn't be any shorter than your extended fingertips. I'm maybe 5'1 so every single pair of shorts was super long :-)

I didn't need 5 English classes to learn how to write a paper, the two required English classes covered that fine (and middle school English, really once you learn how to bs it's not that hard) . Really didn't need three more elective ones. I don't think poetry or lit and film helped me at all.

Engineering majors don't need to write many papers, either.

Wow, only two English classes were required? My daughter attended a California State University and her incoming class (2009-10) had to have 4 High School English classes for admission. And they also had the greatest number of students who had to take remedial English classes at the College level because they couldn't write a college paper.

Asking permission and sometime being told no when you had to go to the bathroom.
After I peed my pants once in elementary school I was told to just go when I needed to though.

I threw up on my desk in 2nd grade cause the teacher didn’t believe that I was feeling sick.

I went to catholic school. Pant uniforms didn’t exist for girls at that time. It sucked in winter. We could wear tights though. In high school, many of us wore sweatpants under our skirts and took them off at school.
We’d always get yelled at if our shirts were untucked.

No, we had to take 5 total. Two English classes were specifically required (freshman and sophomore English), then you could choose the other three from English electives. I took Poetry, Shakespeare, and Literature and Film.

They had an issue with kids smoking in the bathroom so then they came up with a rule where you weren’t allowed to use the bathroom during the last 10 minutes of your lunch. Lunch was 30 minutes.

Group punishment is always the go to solution when you’ve given up.
