We're driving from Boca Raton over to Anna Maria Island in a few days and are looking for driving advice. We just ran a mapquest, and there are several possible routes. One takes Alligator Alley across the state, then heads north on 75. The other cuts diagonally across the state using US 27. Both paths are very similar in miles and time driven. We will be driving this Saturday morning. Would it be smart to take the US 27 route to avoid all the holiday traffic on 75?

Thanks for any help! :)

I really don't think there'd be much holiday traffic to speak of on Alligator Alley. Seems to me most traffic for Easter (besides spring break traffic) is local, which would affect Hwy. 27 more than I-75.

I'd definitely prefer I-75 over Highway 27. I-75 may have some slowdowns here and there, but 27 tends to go straight through towns and has lots of stoplights on it. It may say on Mapquest that it would take the same amount of time as I-75, but I'd bet all those lights would add at least 30-45 minutes to your trip versus taking I-75.

Take it from a guy who lives in a town Hwy. 27 goes through (albeit in Kentucky). It is (in)famous for its stoplights, from Michigan to Florida.

I believe my dad used to use Alligator Alley when driving from the Boca area to the west coast.
