Which rides would work for our "fraidy family"

Our family are visiting IOA in December for 1 day only. We have been once before in 2010 just after WWoHP opened. The crowds were massive so we spent most of our time in WWoHP and due to the heat, only had a quickish wander around the rest of the park. We rode Popeye and that was it. Ridiculous I know.

Our family is DH, me, DD14 and DS10. DH and DS are the most afraid of rides. My husband did ride FJ with DD last time and they were both a bit scared but keen to try again this time. The most radical for us to give you a point of reference on our "bravery/afraid" scale at WDW is Space Mountain, Big Thunder and Splash. We ride those rides and that's about as scary as we get.

With this in mind what rides do you think would suit our family at IOA?

Thank you so much for any help you can give to make our day in the park fun.

In IOA, I think that you'd be OK riding Spiderman (EXCELLENT ride) and the Jurassic Park River Adventure. The Bilge Rat Barges aren't really scary but you do get drenched. The Cat in the Hat isn't scary either but it spins you quite a bit. Poseidon's Fury is just a walkthrough show that some people like but others don't. I personally love the waterwall. :) You could ride the mini-coaster in Harry Potter. We do mostly because I love Buckbeak so much.

There's even more for a "scaredy" family to enjoy in the Studios if you ever to check it out.

I was there in October and I'm a wuss for rides. I rode Jurassic park, HP FJ. HP flight of the hippograph, and Spider-Man. I did fine on all of those, and my tolerance for rides seems pretty similar to yours.

Besides the WWOHP rides and Popeye's Bilge-Rat Barges, I'd recommend Ripsaw Falls (if you like Splash Mountain), Spider-Man (very similar intensity to Forbidden Journey), and anything in Seuss Landing. You might also check out the Poseidon and Sindbad shows (I've never seen them myself).

If you were also going to USF, I'd recommend Despicable Me, Men in Black, The Simpsons, Disaster, ET, T2, and Shrek.

You can also add all of the Seuss stuff, Pteranadon Flyers, Flight of the Hippogriff and Storm Force Acceletron to the list.

The only things I would leave out are the big coasters and Dr. Doom. You can do everything else in the park.

Thanks everyone, that's great feedback.

With Flight of the Hippogriff, I thought that one was quite fast. What does it compare to in Disney terms?

Spiderman - can you tell me a little more about this one?

My DH needs information before he can step onto a ride or he gets a little churned up worrying about it :confused3. So any info you can give would be so gratefully received.

Flight of the Hippogriff compares to a mix between Goofy's Barnstormer thing and Thunder Mountain. It is a kiddie coaster.

Spiderman is comparable to Dinosaur but it isn't as rough and is 3D themed with Spiderman action.

I suggest you youtube the rides you aren't sure about.

Thanks so much Damo. Spiderman sounds perfect. I'll go and check out FofH on Youtube.

Since you said you would be there in December, you can also see the Grinch show. If anyone is a dinosaur fan, check out the exhibits on the lower level of the Dinosaur Discovery Center (same building as the Burger Digs fast food place). Remember that those who don't want to ride Forbidden Journey can still tour the castle and exit before the ride itself (ask at the entrance, most times you can tour the castle portion directly without having to wait in the main line).
