I have not been to US/IOA since 2001. My grandaughter who is 9 wants to ride all the rides especially the roller coasters(she has never been there). She is 51" tall, I told her some may be to scarey for her. Which do you reccomend that she ride and which do you recommend she does not ride ?
At Disney she likes the Tower of Terror but was a little scared on the Rockin Roller coaster, but liked the Yeti roller coaster:confused3. I think she did not like the Rockin Roller Coaster because it started so fast and went upside down and she said her head was jerking to much.

I'd like to know too. I have a 10 yr old who is always scared of everything so I am thinking a lot of the rides at US and IOA may be too intense for him.

My 7 year old rode Manta and Kraken at Seaworld last year and loved it! We also went to Busch Gardens and she rode Sheikra, Kumba, and all the big rides at least twice. All I could hear was "let's do it again!" So it depends on the child. We are going to Universal this August and she can't wait to ride all the big rides that she was too short to ride last time we were there 2 years ago.

OP, I believe you said that the 9 year old is only 51 inches tall.......this would take away most of the big rides as options (including the rollercoasters) since the majority require a 54 inch height minimum to ride.

My son is now 9 and has been riding all the rides for a while now. He is tall for his age at 56 inches. But at 51 inches the biggest ride is Rip Ride Rockit that she can do.:thumbsup2

My 8 year old really thought Doctor Doom was too much for her, though I think the height limit on that one is 52", so it might not be an issue for you. I call DD a chicken with the heart of a dare devil - she is always terrified to get on rides the first time, but she always exclaims, "I want to do that again!!!!" as soon as we get off.

I would be surprised if DD ever does Doctor Doom again. It is a free fall ride. You sit in a seat facing forward, and it blasts you straight up out of the building and 200 feet into the air overlooking the park. Then it drops you a few times before coming down again. The blasting off is the scary part, IMO, not the freefall part. Being in the open air with seemingly nothing to protect you makes it seem much scarier than Tower of Terror.

Ok forget Doctor Doom for me then lol Tower of Terror scares the poohy out of me :scared1: So I know I would not like Doctor Doom because I hate the feeling of falling or thinking I might fall :rotfl: I think me and my 9 year old will skip it lol. Anyway she is not tall enough so I dont have to worry about that.

We were there last summer and my 7 year old (50" at the time) rode everything she was able to. For the most part, she loved everything. Her favorites were Simpsons and Spider Man.
The only rides she didn't want to do again were:
1) Revenge of the Mummy - The coaster part didn't scare her; she rides Expedition Everest and Space Mountain fine. She has some sound sensitivity and the loud volume of this ride freaked her out a bit.
2) Forbidden Journey - DH and I made the mistakes of doing this one as our first ride and of having her ride with me (I was terrified.) I think if we had done it later in the week she would have been fine. She is looking forward to trying it again some time.
3) Jurassic Park River Adventure - She was fine, but didn't want to ride again.
4) Jaws - same as #3

I am not saying you should avoid these rides, just that your granddaughter might want to know what they are like ahead of time to make an informed decision about whether or not to ride. DD was not able to go on Rip Ride Rocket, much to her dismay, so I can't comment on her opinion of it. I will say that DS11 loved it.

It totally depends on the kid. My 3 and 5 year-olds love any ride they are tall enough for, they enjoyed Jurassic Park and Simpsons and were broken-hearted to be too short for Mummy in Universal in LA recently. But my neighbors have an 8-year-old who doesn't like anything intense. If your DD says she wants to ride everything, I would let her try everything she is tall enough to ride.

We are planning a trip soon with a 9 year old and we started checking out youtube video's for some of the rides she was nervous about. Like Jurrasic Park and others. Although it did ruin some element of surprise, I think it was worth it to check it out ahead of time. She will feel much more relaxed and less reluctant to check out the attractions once we arrive. :goodvibes

She liked everything we rode at Disney World except Rockin Roller Coaster which is one of my favorites, you might know:rotfl: And she likes Tower of Terror and I hate it:scared1:

My 9 year old was not tall enough for the big coasters. She did love the following:
Mummy, Men in Black, Spiderman, Jurrasic Park, Forbidden Journey.
She rides every ride in DL and WDW -- CA screaming, space mountain, and will go on ToT with me, although she gets nervous every time.
The thing she HATED at US was the horror make up show. We had to get up and leave! Scared her, grossed her out.

Thanks OP as I have been looking in 3 different guide books trying to figure out what rides to take my 10 year old son on. All the books call US/IOA adult theme parks and that really puts worry in my mind, as we are going as a family.

My ds10 (who was 9 when we were at Universal/IO last year), rode everything, but refused to go to Twister. He has a big fear of tornadoes.

That's interesting as US/IOA were tween/ teen Nirvana for my boys. :lovestruc DH and I love it, too, but make me 25 years younger and I bet I would love it even more. :thumbsup2

Exactly the same for my son. He loved it since he was about 10 years old. Disney...not so much.

My seven yr old daughter would ride every ride at Universal if she were tall enough, fear is very subjective! It has nothing to do with age.
