Which rides might hurt your neck?

Are there any rides that are likely to hurt your neck? When I was younger I rode Space Mountain at Disney and my neck hurt for several days afterwards. I get a stiff neck once in a while and it really slows me down.

Are there some rides I should avoid, just in case?

just got back today---i would say dragon challenge and hulk may hurt your neck because you jostle from side to side quite a bit. i rode both and feel fine so i don't want to say you'll definitely have neck issues riding these, but i could see how it may be possible.

FJ also jostles you quite a bit. but unless you're very concerned/sensitive (or have exisiting neck problems) then i hope this won't deter you because again, i didn't have any problems.

Cheers! popcorn::

Would agree with Dragon Challenge, but I also think the further back you sit on the rides the more you get tossed about, we tend to always ride front row for the added thrills but think its also smoother.
If you are going to Busch Gardens, avoid "Gwazi," its an old wooden rollercoaster, its like going 12 rounds with Mike Tyson !

Before the recent redo I would've nominated RRR but word from this board is that the roughness has improved.

not only will hulk hurt your neck, it will also give you a headache and box your ears,

if youre not in the right position on most rides it will hurt, sit back in the seat, head straight up (against the rest) and look forward, If youre leaning away from the seat back, that when you can hurt yourself.

This. All of it. *I* can ride Hulk 1-2x in a row before it bothers me. A major PROTIP is to hold on to the handles/lapbars. While raising your hands on coasters/drops is exciting, it can be a little painful.

The Mummy might also be problematic, IIRC. It has a couple of wild, out-of-nowhere drops that turn as they're dropping.

This is good advice. Thank you. I'll skip Hulk and follow your tips for other rides, just in case.

Edited: We are here, and she ignored most advice on this post - her adventurous side took over and she tried to keep up with her kids (older). Hulk, RRR, Dragon Challenge, Mummy.....

Neck came out fine. She even handled the upside-down on Dragon Challenge - in response to my older son's saying "are you ready to go upside down" after being locked into the ride she replied :"This ride goes upside down?!" but came off ok. Slightly woozy, but ok with the neck.

Great. I can't miss Forbidden Journey! I was a little concerned with nausea on that one too.

Mummy is definitely not a good idea, especially the back seat. We were there a little over two weeks ago and our second ride I decided to sit in the back row (DDs sat in front row) to avoid the water in the face. Bad idea! I seriously tweaked my back - I knew immediately. Right as the ride goes down the second big hill (in the dark) there is a sudden turn - that did me in! My neck ended up hurting later. It is actually still bothering me. So I wouldn't recommend Mummy!

Is it a fair comparison to say Mummy is somewhat like Space Mountain in terms of (thrill, no loops, dark and no idea where you are going, but doable?) level of the ride? I just manage space mountain, have never been to Universal (heading there for next week) and planned to do Mummy...

Thanks

Kelli

They are somewhat comparable, but to me, Mummy is much more intense. Also alot scarier. The first row is definitely better on the back/neck. I ride SM in the first row as well.

Rode Mummy first time last week and I would agree with above. The Mummy has only a brief 'roller coaster' ride as compared to SM but it is somewhat more intense. ;)

Back to the Future did a real number on my husband's neck (had problems for a long time afterwards with no prior problems). I don't know if it's any different since it's the Simpsons or not.

Shrek hurt my neck, as well as my hubby's the first time we did it. We had no idea the seats were going to do what they did when they did. We both thought the seats just shot air at you or something similar to Bug's Life/Philharmagic.

It was only that first time. Now we know to sort of brace for the movement.
