ordering off the children's menu for my 14 yr. old? I don't mind paying for an adult portion, just want the option, if he wants a cheeseburger, pizza etc.

This is our ADR list:
Via Napoli (not a problem, he can have pizza LOL)
Mama Melrose
Chef de France (this one is one I am concerned about)
Kona
Yak & Yeti
Tusker & Trails End (won't be a problem since it's a buffet)

Also, if you have any must try dishes or desserts at these restaurants, please share, all these are new to us.

At the majority of those restaurants, you should not have a problems. While Disney has a lot of options for everyone when it comes to dining, at the end of the day I'm still a picky eater and have to order off the Kid's Menu myself sometimes.

I have heard of some guests having issues with third-party restaurants (restaurants not run by Disney) and these restaurants are common at Epcot and Disney Springs. However, the worst offender I've heard about is Via Napoli, and it sounds like he won't have an issue there. Again, in most cases he shouldn't have an issue.

You should be fine with all of those!
Via Napoli has tons of pizza and pasta
Mama Melrose has some delicious pasta meals
Chefs has options that aren't too crazy too, the adult menu should have an option or 2 he'd enjoy
Yak & Yeti has mainly meat/tofu and rice dishes, they're super delicious,
Tusker & Trails end should be fine, Trails end has pizza on the buffet too
Kona I always get sushi so I honestly don't even know what the menu looks like lol

Also keep in mind that the children's portions are rather small! I usually get them at QS locations to tide me over but from what I've heard 14 y/o boys can eat a LOT lol.

My 17 year old has ordered off the kids menu at Mama Melrose, Chefs de France and Kona (though at breakfast, which is the preference, we usually end up sharing a meal and adding an extra side of meat).

OP, this is absolutely nothing personal....but is anyone else as sick of this question/topic as I am?:crazy2: :)

I'm not because it's exactly what I wanted to know. While I'm not new to Disney, my last trip was 1991. I'm trying to reserve tables and I need all the help I can get! Thank you OP!
Going by what you're saying, there are many other threads like this I can explore so I thank you too L&L!:teleport:

Yes, seems like a new one every day! I never knew how many people prefer "kiddie" food to adult cuisine. I learn something every time I see these threads! :)

I think that there are so many messages like this one because WDW seems inconsistent on this issue--As an example, I have seen reports of older kids of 12 or so being denied ordering a kids meal at BOG and I have also seen reports of adults ordering kids meals there.

I disagree. The large number of threads on this topic, just like the large number of identical threads on other common subjects is mostly due to posters not knowing how, or not bothering, to simply use the search function.

And I've never heard of anyone who wasn't allowed to order from the kids menu at BOG if they were paying OOP.

Perhaps some people aren't bothering to search or not knowing how to search. But I disagree with you about Disney being consistent. There are posts that I have seen where older children have been denied ordering from the BOG dinner menu--here is one recent example (not sure if I am linking this correctly)

1) Weird.
2) I am an old guy and order from kids menu at
. . . Wave
. . . BoG
. . . Marrakesh
I'm glad you are able to order kids meals at those restaurants. My experience was not the same. FWIW, we were denied at BOG dinner twice.

My DD now eats adult sized portions so I don't worry about it anymore.
