Which restaurant has the best Italian food?

Definately NOT Mama Melrose. Italian food is my favorite and my oldest sons. So I picked MM for our Fantasmic package. It was a limited menu and the food was aweful. Dh wouldnt even eat it and he isnt picky in the least.

Gotta agree with honeybehr on that one...definately not Mama Melrose's. I found it to be mediocre. And the head of lettuce (with Caesar dressing poured on it) that they gave me and called a "salad" was ridiculous!

Well, we really enjoyed Mama Melrose's -- the eggplant dish was wonderful! And I'm sentimental about Alfredo's -- we've had great meals and horrible meals there, but we were married in the Italy pavilion, so we'll keep going back no matter what!

But the BEST Italian food on Disney property in my opinion is Palio at the Swan. The decor is nice, the service is fantastic and our last meal there was out of this world!

we really enjoyed the Portobello Yacht Club in Downtown Disney. I am not certain, however, if they had Southern Italian (i.e. gravy, lasagna, etc) cuisine on their menu, or if it was only Northern Italian.
I have heard good things about Palio as well, but have never dined there.

We USED TO like Alfredo's but last Saturday night we had a not terrific dinner there. Actually, the food was very good, but the service was rushed and the atmosphere not good. I will no longer recommend this restaurant.

There used to be a really good Italian Bistro at the Swan. We loved the food, couldn't understand what we were eating for the menu was all in Italian but it was very YummY!!!

I'll put in another vote for the Portobello Yacht Club. As far as I know, it's not on the dining plan and you have to call them directly for a reservation. But, in our experience, they can usually fit you in at the last minute and the food is always superb.

Definately Alfrado's. By far rthe best Italian meal I have ever had. When we started planning our trip to go back this Feb that was the first restaurant that I made reservations for. Located in Italy in Epcot! Bon Appetite!

Here's another vote for Portobello Yacht Club. We didn't get to go there this past trip, but we will definitly be going this year in October. :)

I would vote against Alfredo's. We used to love it, but have noticed it going down over the past few visits. It was so bad the last time, we wouldn't even go back. My mother found a piece of a plastic bag with a big metal hook in her dish of pasta. Now, that can happen at any restaurant, so we weren't really mad. The waiter handled things so poorly though, that he received no tip and we'll probably never go back. I thought the food was mediocre at best, anyway.

I love Mama Melrose. We went there on the dining plan last time and appetizer, entree, and dessert were all excellent. We had the baked cheese appetizer with marinara and garlic toast which was particularly good. The server was EXCEPTIONAL. He was just one of those people that you could tell was having a great time at his job, and he made the whole meal that much better. Definitely will go back!

Cheers,
MG

IMHO, there are NO good places in Disney to find good Italian. We do not eat Itailain at Disney anymore. I am Italian but that doesn't make me an expert.

We ate at Mama Melrose this past Monday and really enjoyed our dinner. We were on the Fantasmic dinner package and got a salad, shared a flatbread, each got an entree (I had penne ala vodka and my DH had the chicken parmesan) and choice of dessert (he had chocolate cake and I had a hazelnut cheescake). We liked it far better than the meal we had at Hollywood and Vine in August. It wasn't the best Italian we've ever eaten, but I was surprised how tasty it was. I went in not having very high expectations and was pleasantly surprised by the meal. Our sons liked their spaghetti and pizza.

I did not care for Alfredo's and but we did enjoy Portabellos in dtd, haven't done mama melrose in a few years but we use to love it.

We really like Mama Melrose. In fact, it is really the only restaurant (CS or table) that we enjoy at MGM.

We love MM too. We took some "newbies" there with us last month, and they were hooked! Our server Holly was wonderful, which only added to our satisfaction with this restaraunt.

Alfredo's is our favorite WDW restaurant. :earsboy:

I want to put in another vote for Portobello Yacht Club, it is my favorite Resturant at Disney. Usually my first meal of my week, and I will actually be there this Sunday night.

I have never tried MM or Alfredo's. I did try Tony's last year it was as good as I was expecting it to be, not the best Italian I have ever had but not horrible either, more along the lines of your local Pizzeria.

Also, you can make AR's for Portobello thru Disney Dining, I usually do that every trip but end up showing up early and am still able to get seated.

We enjoyed Mama Melrose. I agree with a previous poster that the choices are limited but DH and I and our kids thought the food was really lovely and the chef was very accommodating and made garlic bread for my 8 year old DS even though it wasn't on the menu!

We also ate at Wolfgang Pucks Cafe in Downtown Disney (West Side) and it was terrific! DH and I had a beautiful pasta dish and my eldest son loved his pizza. Great service too and very, very friendly staff.
