Which resort?

I am trying to help someone plan a Disney trip in March. It will be their family (2 adults, and 3 boys ages 3, 4 & 5) plus her mother and father. She wants to stay at a resort that will provide the easiest transportation back and forth to the Magic Kingdom. They will be there for 3 days. We have only stayed at OKW but she thinks one of the resorts with the monorail would be better. TIA for any suggestions!

Hi Rita66,

When our children were both in a stroller our most relaxing vacation was when we stayed at the Contemporary Resort. We really enjoyed walking to the MK from our Contemporary Garden Wing room. This is the resort that is closest to the MK.

Arriving for our early breakfasts at Chef Mickey's was a pleasure with two little ones as they could sleep later in the morning as the restaurant was just a short walk away from our room. On this trip, we went days without stepping foot on any kind of Disney Transportation as we spent most of our time in the MK or at our resort. I love the fact that Disney offers friendly and efficient Resort transportation, but I must admit that I preferred the short walk we had from our room to the MK over all of the stroller folding and unfolding (while managing our little ones) that we have done when we stayed at other Disney resorts. (and we have certainly done our share of folding and unfolding! :rotfl: )

The Poly, GF, and WL are also located a quick monorail- or boat ride away from the MK. The least expensive option of these choices is the WL. However, the Garden Wing rooms at the Contemporary are quite a bit less money per night than the Contemporary Tower rooms.

If your friends want to be as close as possible to the MK, I suggest the Contemporary.

I am sure whichever Disney resort they choose they will have the best time! Good luck helping them to plan their vacation! They are certainly lucky to have you helping them!

Contemporary is a great choice as suggested and have nicely updated rooms. Can't beat the monorail resorts.

I personally like the Polynesian, since i like that theming and i am not much into the modern theming more prevalent at the Contemporary. I also like the pool at the Poly and young boys might get a kick out of the volcano pool and slide. not to mention the beach and great view of WISHES from the beach. Ohana is one of my fav dinners at Poly too.

GF is great too, but just not my taste either- not to mention the price tag. I'd prefer the WL, AKL or Poly.

It really depends on their tastes and needs and which outweighs. Contemporary does have the easy walk and monorail. The other two really don't have easy ways to walk, but do have the monorail.

The absolute most convenient would be the Contemproary tower (down an elevator then up an escalator or elevator to get on the monorail) or the Grand Floridian main building (just an elevator ride to the level with the monorail). Next would be the garden wing of the Contemporary, the other buildings of the Grand Floridian, or the Polynesian (each a walk of anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes from your room to the monorail). Of those three the GF and Poly are much nicer.

We recently stayed at the Contemporary with our 15 month old, and it was great! We loved walking to the MK every night. :thumbsup2

i know that everyone wants a quick ride to mk - but you should ask them how they want to see wdw - how much they want to spend - check out the website for park hours - and then make a suggestion based on what's open and what's not - if the parks close early - and they want to relax - and they can only afford moderate - then maybe the contemporary is not the place - we've been to both pofq & pors w/two kids in strollers and grandparents and we had the best time - transportation was not that much of a problem - but th ekids loved coming back to swim in the theme pool - quiet pool - and it was less expensive than the contemporary - i've always recommended pofq for a first trip because of the extreme theming - some people aren't into the retro modern 1960's theme and pofq is interesting

Thanks for all the suggestions!! You all are so AWESOME on this board. When we planned our trip to disney a few years ago, I was on this board everyday for 6 months reading the experts advice:cheer2: . We could have never had the vacation we had if I had not got all of the great suggestions. When my cousin said she needed help planning a disney trip, I knew exactly where to go!! She is visiting this weekend so now I have lots of good information to give her. Thanks again! Rita
