OK, I am going to try a quick poll here to see everyone's recommendation. I am booked at AKV in November for a trip with my sister and her kids. We just booked our airfare and decided to fly down the night before since it is a bit cheaper and will add a day to our brief Thurday -> Tuesday (was Friday -> Tuesday) trip. Now, we are arriving very late, about 11 PM at MCO, so I don't feel like using more DVC points and I was thinking about staying at one of the value or moderate resorts. I did look at the prices at the hotels near the airport but they aren't any cheaper than the WDW resorts. I am actually leaning towards one of the moderates but I am not sure which. Also, I will be using, hopefully, the AAA rate and with any luck will switch to an AP rate when/if they come out.

Also, I left CBR off because I have already stayed there.

I personally would choose a value resort if arriving at 11pm in MCO. It's a 20-30 minute drive to the resorts... I had a similar situation and ended up booking a cheapie on Priceline for the first night.

Or if you prefer, go for a hotel near DTD so you can hit Pleasure Island late night to kick off your vacation! Good luck. :thumbsup2

Hmmm DTD, if it wasn't for the kids, that could definitely be an option. :drinking1

On value versus moderate, I am definitely having the debate in my mind. I would normally do a moderate over a value, but for a 12 -12:30 AM arrival at the resort, I am definitely thinking about it.

I voted for Pop, only because there is no sense in spending too much money on a room where you are just sleeping. Just make sure to pack what you need that night in your carry on. When you check in tell the CM to have them not deliver your luggage. That way you'll be able to sleep.

Hmm, another option now. Of course I can't edit the poll. But I just looked at the point chart. A studio at AKV for that night is only 12 points. So, if one was available, we could book that, squish ourselves in there for the first night and then just leave our bags with bell services until our 2 BR is available. This definitely requires some though today. Maybe, I'll call today see if one is available and book it until I make up my mind.

If you can't get the DVC for the night, I would definitely just do a value. Won't be much time o enjoy the resort anyway. :)

I voted for All Stars, I stayed at ASMu once and liked it.

I am doing the same thing next month, staying first night at All Star Music then moving to Beach Club Villas. ASMu has been refurbished, it would be the best bet for just 1 night with such a late arrival time. Do not waste money on a mod, you will not be there long enough to enjoy the resort.

I would stay at one of the All Stars. We just did that (stayed at the Movies) for our spring break trip. We were staying in a 2-BR at SSR, and I didn't want to spend 90 points for Friday night when we weren't getting into MCO until 8:00. We had a great time and the room was nice.

I'm a sucker for the POR, but if it's for one short night, I would go the cheapest possible.

Good luck!

Aren't the All Stars the closest values to the AKV? If so, I would stay there. If I remember correctly it is just a short drive.

Thanks everyone, you have all helped me make my decision. I decided upon Pop since we will only be using the room for 7-9 hours. When I thought about it, it really didn't make sense to pay for a moderate since we will probably be heading over to AKV right after we eat breakfast at the Pop. Thanks again everyone!

Although I love the deluxes and moderates I would think if you would not be arriving at the hotel until around midnight..and getting up the next day to go to your resort why not save some $ since it sounds like you just need a place to rest your head?:confused3

That was my thought. I figure that we will head over after breakfast to AKV and let the kids spend the day looking at the savanna and at the pool. We will make sure we have what we need so we won't really care if our room isn't ready to the late afternoon. Plus there may be a game of mini golf  calling us that day.
