Which Resort Would You Pick?

As always I'm having a hard time making up my mind!

In February we'll be going back to Disney. DDs will be competing in Twirlmania and will be in both SpectroMagic and the MK afternoon parade.

As you can see from my signature we've stayed at (and loved) GF, Poly and YC. We will be traveling as a family of 5, but my in-laws will be joining us so we won't have the room for 5 limitations we normally have.

Here are the choices I'm thinking about -

1. WL - We've never stayed there (only sleeps 4 to a room). In the summer I've always been afraid it's too "dark". However DH thinks it looks great for a Feb. trip. This would probably be our only chance to stay there since we can put one of the kids in the room with their grandparents.

2. CBR - We've never stayed at a mod but I've always loved the feel of CBR. Of course the new pirate pool is drawing us in. Would going from deluxes to a mod be really hard?

3. We could just stick with what we know - GF would be too pricey for my in-laws (unless a good AP rate came out). So we would probably be picking from Poly, CR or one of the EPCOT resorts.

Twirlmania is held at Wide World of Sports if that makes any difference.

Any advice?

Thanks!

I think the WL would be a cozy place to stay in the winter. And you said it might be your only chance to stay there.

Good luck, what a fun decision to make. :goodvibes

WL gets my vote, because we are staying there in SEpt so I've been researching it and looking at as many pics as I can and it looks beautiful!

I say CBR would not be too hard to stay at it is a great resort!!!

I think you'll find CBR to be nice and relaxing just as GFL yes it won't be exactly the same but it is still a great resort!!

do you want to share a room with your il - then go with VWL 2-bedroom - it sleeps 8.

otherwise might go with CR - yes I know not on your list. but you can walk to MK from it. the only resort you can do this at. also coming back from the MK on the monrail, it is first stop.

with your daughter being at the MK - this definitely has advantages.

We just came from there and LOVED IT!! The transportation was not my most favorite with small kids, but with older stroller-less kids it would be great! The Lodge and Hotel as a whole is amazing and we will def stay there again! I dont think you will be disappointed. And liek you said - This may be the only time you will be able to experience it (extra room of your folks)... You can always stay at CBR when you "have to".... Just my 2 cents. Be sure to check out the Wilderness Lodge Addiction thread - many many great pictures and you will be able to get most any questions answered taht you might have!!

I should have clarified that either WL or CBR would be the only time staying there for us since we normally travel as a party of 5.

I think the transportation to MK would be better at WL than CBR, and WL does have a "wintry" feel. Of course for some reason I've always been drawn to CBR.

I am still thinking of CR also - the walkway would be great, and ds has always wanted to stay at CR.

I wonder what regular people do that aren't resort indecisive?

Keep the suggestions coming!

WL. It is not as close to MK as the monorail resorts (which you already know about) but our kids love riding the boat back and forth to MK from WL.

We are staying at VWL in a 2BR in exactly 101 days.

Can't wait.

For me I would probably pick CBR. I think the mods are wonderful and CBR is my favorite. Given your winter time frame, it might be nice to have something tropical to enjoy! The rooms at CBR are just enough larger than the other mods to make them feel more spacious. The different villages are so quaint and lovely. The new pool will be a plus. Also, CBR is the only moderate where you can request preferred location. I happen to enjoy walking around the mods but if I was travelling with my parents I would want that preferred locale for their benefit. Alhtough the preferred location is only important for access to the main pool and food court. All the villages have bus stops and quiet pools. And the CBR quiet pools are wonderful, the nices and largest I have seen so far. CBR also has some very nice views of Illuminations. The beach hammocks are so nice for relaxing. I loved that whole resort.

The WL would be nice given the fact you can put one of your kids with the inlaws. But to me staying in a woodsy place in February would be too much like home for me! That's just a personal thing and I have to say that resort is amazing. I cannot imagine your parents wouldn't love it. Do the Hoop Dee Doo Review with them, we just did and it was so fun. I was wishing so much the whole time we would have taken my parents to that when we went with them a few years ago, they would have loved it. It would be very convenient to get over to Ft. Wildnerness from WL.

The CR would be nice for the walking path but you can stay there another time since it takes five and I think the construction there right now sort of just distracts. If I ever stayed at that resort I would have to go with a MK view in the tower, to me that is the THE reason to stay at that resort. So unless your inlaws want to spring for that, I'd save that for a time when its just your family and the DVC construction is all done.

I don't think the change from a moderate to a deluxe will be too hard. But then I also enjoy the values! To me the moderates have so much theming to enjoy outside for a very nice price. But every person is different.

I loved everything about the WL except for the transportation situation to/from the Magic Kingdom..You cannot go wrong with that resort.

IMHO I think dropping "down" to a moderate might leave you a bit disappointed if you are used to a deluxe, which it sounds as though you are. Now to the main question at hand...which one.

GF: Nice but I don't feel it is worth the $$ unless you are going on a special trip such as a major anniversary.

Poly: I have heard raves about this resort and some that were disappointed. I guess it is the type of room you end up with. My BIL and his family stayed there one year, and I was not all that impressed to tell you the truth. I loved the walkways in between the buildings with the floral and garden shows that you see, and the pool was kind of cool (doesn't compare to SAB), but overall I was not all that taken in with it. Again maybe for that special trip?? Kona cafe is good though.

CR: This one surprised me on a trip that we made 2 years ago. It was right after a bunch of the rooms had been refurbished, and to tell you the truth I think they did a great job. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and it wasn't as loud at night as I thought it would be, especially with us staying at the end where Chef Mickey's is at. We had a MK Tower view room, and simply enjoyed a great fireworks show each night. I would definitely consider CR if you want to be on the monorail.

Epcot resorts: I am a DVC owner at BCV so that should tell you my opinion of this resort area. I LOVE IT!!! However, with your DD being in a couple of MK parades (even though a majority of the event will be at WWS) seems to rule out the Epcot area unless you are not worried about transportation. Other than that what could be better with the best pool on propery at YC/BC and walking distance to 2 parks?

WL: If you are looking at staying somewhere new though I would recommend WL without hesitation. The Whispering Canyon Cafe is a great place to eat (their breakfast skillet is wonderful!!). They have a nice pool (maybe a bit smallish) with a kid-friendly slide, and the transportation (boat or bus) to MK is timely. We had no complaints, and the staff there has been very friendly.

At this point I'd say go for WL if you don't believe that you'll have another opportunity to stay there. It is a great resort.

My vote is for WL. We stayed there during our first trip to Disney and absolutely loved it. The water taxi to MK was so convenient too!
