Which resort should I choose?

We (me, DH, DD11, and DS9) are in the process of planning a 6 night/7 day trip for the week after Thanksgiving. This will be our 2nd trip. Last year we went during Thanksgiving and stayed in the cabins at FW. We loved our stay there and would highly recommend the cabins.

This year we are trying to decide between: ASMu Family Suites, a standard view room at CR or a cabin at FW. The suite is the cheapest (by about $550) and the standard view room at the CR is the most expensive (only about $60-70 more than the cabin). I was all set to book the CR, but then heard about the construction and the food court possibly being closed when we are there. DH is not so keen on the suites at ASMu because of alot of the reviews he has read. I really wanted to try a different place this time, but am now leaning towards the cabin again. I would prefer to have seperate beds for the kids. I have checked all of the resorts and these were the 3 that had the bed arrangements that I wanted that would not out of our budget.

Which would you choose and why?

TIA.

Lauren

go with the cheapest.

go find some of the other posts on All Star Music suites- especially by Linda.

she loves them.

I think your husband may change his mind.

I did see the thread started by Linda (I think) about the family suites and that is what got my interest in them. I gave DH the link to the thread which for the most part was positive, but he has been searching the net reading all kinds of reviews. The one down side to the AS resorts is their distiance to MK. MK by far was the favorite park last year and everyone wants to stay close by.

If proximity to MK is important, then go with CR. You can walk to/from MK (CR is the only resort where you can do this), or take the monorail. Also, since you are on the monorail, it would be easy to get to the other monorail resorts for meals. That should help if the CR counter-service place is closed.

We currently have the suites booked in August at ASmu. I have stayed there previously and loved it. I have done some research and I have found that under normal circumstances, it should only take 15-18 minutes to get from ASmu to MK. That is not that long when you think about it. If that is the only reason why you wouldn't want ASmu and it is cheaper, I would think it over again. JMO

We still haven't decided. DH has given me until tomorrow to make a decision. Now to throw a wrench into the dilemma, DS says he would like to stay at WL. We can get a (I believe a Woods view) room with bunk beds for not much more than the cabins. Last year DH stopped by the WL and says the grounds are gorgeous and the lobby was spectacular.

For the most part, I think all 4 four of us have decided completely against the suites at ASMu.

So we are down to:
  • Standard view room at CR
  • Cabin at FW
  • Woods view room w/ bunkbeds at WL

I really wish I had found this board last year. You all have been so helpful.

Sounds like you've made your decision...WL it is!:cool1:

Or...you could rent points from a DVC member and stay in a 1BR villa....:confused3

We would definitely go with the Wilderness Lodge. The resort grounds are beautiful, the pool is great, and your still in very close proximity to the MK. Your a boat ride away. The rooms are big and they have great places to dine in. The Whispering Canyon is delicious for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and the prices are reasonable and of course there is Artist Pointe which is great for dinner just a little more pricey. So definitely we would go with Wilderness Lodge.:thumbsup2 :goodvibes

:) If all of you are dead against ASM then there is no point of me trying to win that one over for you! :rotfl:
It sounds to me like your only up in the air w/ this one because you already stayed there and want to try something new... I hate to throw this into the works but I know the Animal Kingdom has bunks too and its a new resort for you to try :headache: It also should be in the same price range or maybe cheaper... ????
If you really had to choose w/ the list above I would say stick w/ the cabins... its close to MK and you can party w/ chip and dale at night!

I brought up AKL to the family and that idea was shot down because someone (I think DS) heard that it smells because of all the animals. IIRC it is cheaper than WL and CR.

ETA: Last year we didn't do the campfire thing with Chip & Dale. I'm hoping no matter where we decide to stay that we will be able to do that this year.

Go with WL! You'll be so glad you did!!!

We have made our decision and our ressies. After reading alot of reviews on here and other sites we decided to with CBR, which was not even on our original list. My DH's sister stayed there with her family many years ago and loved it. And after finding out we slept in a double bed in the cabin, the decision was easy. We are saving almost $800 and we booked a preferred room at CBR. We plan on getting an air mattress and the kids can take turns sleeping on that. On our trip last year we did stop at the CBR when we had to get from AK to DTD. We only saw the bus stop and got a brief tour as we were driving around the resort, but I thought the grounds were amazing.
