simple American fare? I would like to see other resorts but we are pretty simple eaters. Last trip we did Whispering Canyon (loved it) and HDDR. We will have our car so transportation is not an issue. Thanks!

Do mean straight forward presentations and not overly wrought dishes, or generally "American" food? For instance, the Yachtsman is very straight forward and high quality. Beaches and Cream might be right up your alley as well.

Straightforward, meat & potatoe kinda places. Hubby doesnt like many veggies or lots of sauces. Thanks!

I would avoid Grand Floridian Café in that case. I've found it to be a bit pretentious. You might want to check out Olivia's at Old Key West (check their menu at Allears.net or the Disney site). They have wonderful Southernmost Buttermilk Fried Chicken.

Another vote for Trails End!
We are pretty simple eaters too. We also love HDDR and WCC and Trails End is a must do for us every trip :)
It's not at a resort but Homecoming is great too!

The Wave at the Contemporary
Turf Club at Saratoga Springs

And you didn't ask for Disney Springs, but just to add some more non-park options ...
D-Luxe Burger
Homecomin'
House of Blues
Splitsville
Raglan Road - Irish really, but great meat and potatoes! and entertainment

Friends ate there this evening and said it was wonderful. Is that a fun resort to walk around after a meal.

We are planning T-Rex for our son.

I haven't dined at the Grand Floridian, but we have been to 1900 Park Fare a few times, and yes, the Grand Floridian is great place to walk around and see. I love the Basin store and the grounds are beautiful. You can take a lovely boat ride to the MK or the Polynesian.

I am contemplating going back to Whispering Canyon because the food was good and our son loved the antics.

I love Whispering Canyon as well. It has a very homey feel and a lot of comfort foods.

I was going to suggest Grand Floridian Cafe but yes, it can be pretentious which is surprising for a simple little cafe. I will say the breakfast menu is much better than lunch and dinner.

Any of the cafeteria-style. My favorite is Port Orleans French Quarter. Beaches and Cream for sure.

I'm actually gonna go out on a limb and recommend the Boma buffet! Taste tiny amounts of exotic foods in an attempt to broaden your horizons, but fill up on comfort food like carved meats (they always seem to have one spicy and one not-spicy available) and mashed potatoes. And go see the animals before or after.

Our boys (5 & 2) loved T-Rex. My DH said the ribs were in his lifetime top 3. It was not as loud as I was expecting, just enough that I wasn't telling my excited kids to stop roaring like dinosaurs every few minutes. The Landry card was totally worth getting for the quick seating, extra service and $25 birthday credit (set your bday to when your trip is.)

If you are not opposed to QS, many resorts have a carving station where you get a choice of meat (beef, turkey, sometimes ham) and sides like mashed potatoes and corn.

Breakfasts at a resort TS might be a good option for straight forward simple American food.

It may be beneficial to check out the menus of restaurants either on the Disney World website or here on wdwinfo.com
