Which Resort Is, In Your Opinion, the Most Relaxing?

Depends on what he finds relaxing...tropical = Poly, outdoors = WL, people watching = Boardwalk (with Boardwalk view), animals = AKL, etc.

Based on level...

Value- AoA (Cars section at night is relaxing)
Moderate- PoFQ- Small, compact resort... less people, quieter pool, less walking. POR is a close second.
Deluxe- Polynesian- Beautiful grounds

If he is interested in sitting on a room balcony or patio, you will need to book a deluxe resort. Honestly, they all have their positives! IMHO, of the MK resorts, Poly would be the most relaxing. The tropical theming makes it feel very serene. I would request a room away from the pools, however, as the volcano pool, especially can be very loud during the day. You might want to consider requesting the Fiji longhouse on the luau cove side. And definitely request a third floor (for a balcony) or first floor (for a patio).

Both Wilderness Lodge and Animal Kingdom Lodge are also very relaxing, but the rooms will be smaller than the other deluxes. If you choose Animal Kingdom Lodge, I would not book a pool view room. Savannah view will be your most relaxing option.

Of the EP resorts, I would consider YC (to be guaranteed a balcony) and Boardwalk. Don't rule out Boardwalk! If you don't want to hear people on the Boardwalk, simply book a standard or, better yet, a garden view room. We stay at Boardwalk a lot and never book a Boardwalk view. The Boardwalk area during the day is very relaxing.

How about little outside the box. I cant think anywhere more quiet than say Fort Wilderness. Get a cabin , that will be plenty of room and super peaceful during the day and night. Every time I go over , so relaxing. Love watching the trees and wildlife.

I don't know how far away your trip is, but although I love WL, it is having major renovations and building construction going on thru 2017? There is an entire thread with WL construction updates. I don't know how evjoyable or relaxing it will be right now.

Poly is great, but if you are looking for a balcony or patio, the 2nd floor rooms don't have them. You can request, but not guaranteed.

GF is very relaxing, beautiful grounds, there are also tables & chairs along main building on the wrap around porch. Also beaches to relax on. Off the lobby or second floor of main building there is a nice deck hardly anyone uses. It's also nice to relax in the lobby and listen to the piano or the string quartet.
The rooms all have balconies, and they are larger, they have 2 queens and a full size daybed. Bathroom Is spacious.
With 3 adults it's a consideration. The 11yr old can have the day bed!
You have the monorail for easy access to the other monorail resorts for explorations.

YC is very relaxing too, all rooms have a balcony or patio. Some rooms have day bed, can be requested if you'd like another bed. Lobby is quiet, they also have a quiet pool as well as Storm Along Bay. A beach, and you have a walkway all along Cresent Lake to the other resorts, and boats. It's fun just to take one of the Friendship Boats sightseeing. The rooms at The Epcot resorts are a bit smaller than the MK resort area, but larger than WL or AKL.

The moderate resorts are also relaxing, but lack balconies or private patios. The grounds at POR are beautiful along the river, and in nice weather there are benches along the river walk, also chairs on veranda by main building.
Table & chairs and lounges by the quiet pools, and main pool of course. Rooms are smaller, but still have 2 queens. I also thing CBR is very nice. Lots of public patios. And off the bridge connecting both sides of resort is a few hidden sitting areas and hammocks. Hammocks on the beaches too.

The only resorts I don't feel are very relaxing are the values. And rooms are tiny.

We do the same thing with my mom. She found Yacht Club to be perfect. Great balcony, quiet, beautiful beach, covered porch with rocking chairs

When are you going? Not sure I would choose WL because the construction noises will not be very peaceful. They were doing soft renovations at BI when we were there and there was a lot of noise in the daytime. It was not very relaxing. I'd choose a deluxe with no scheduled construction. I'd choose a deluxe over a moderate if a balcony is important. And I'd choose a deluxe with no construction.

Dates are up in the air right now. I wanted beginning of December but I have a job interview in retail this week which would push it to January.

We have stayed at Pop, POFQ, CBR, BC, and BWI. Of those hands down CBR was the most relaxing. Very quiet rooms and despite being full never ever felt crowded. At times it seemed like we had the whole place to ourselves. There are no balconies though. But there are hammocks on the beaches at each village.

I can see him getting on board with the hammock idea.

This is actually what we've decided on. I told him about this thread and we were talking and then I remembered there were cabins at Fort Wilderness. I camped there in the late '90s and we found it very relaxing. I had just forgotten about the cabins.

He has food considerations, too, so the full kitchen would come in handy!

I have been to many of the resorts and the quietest resort I have been to is The a Yacht Club! It has beautiful shaded areas with benches to sit on and nice balconies. We were there over spring break too!! Definitely check them out and request a room by the Tennis courts!!

We love the cabins. Mom likes people watching and has difficulty with walking so we have chosen not to stay there recently with her. Sometimes you have a long walk to get on the buses.

For some, I think the cabins are an excellent way to relax. If you decide on the cabins, then consider bringing a comfortable folding camp chair so he can sit outside on the deck.

With the savings over a deluxe, you might even be able to rent a golf cart for him so he can get around easily during the day. He might enjoy that.

I think Saratoga Springs is a very quiet and relaxing resort! We stayed in the Congress Park section, and the walk over to Disney Springs was very easy. I don't know about the other areas of the resort, but even the quiet pool was quiet and relaxing.

We will be a party of 4 - 3 adults and an 11 year old.

One of our adults will be spending about half their time at the resort just relaxing with a book. He enjoys peace and quiet and would prefer somewhere he could sit outside on a balcony or deck type of setting.

He is my priority in the resort decision.

Thoughts?

Moderates don't have balconies and are really spread out -- is this adult older? There can be a lot of walking involved, maybe that's good and maybe not so good depending on the adult. Would the 4 of you be staying in one room? WL/AKL would be very tight in a regular room.

I'm thinking in terms if we were taking my parent, as an example, and I would look into Poly, GF, or BC/YC. Poly has that calming/tropical feel to it and you have a pretty good chance of getting a balcony/patio with the 1st or 3rd floors. There are also quiet spots to find all around the beach area. Also, a nice lobby to sit in, nice shopping, and fast-food for a snack/drink. Also nice restaurants for all of you to enjoy.

In the Epcot area, personally, we love the BC over the YC, but in thinking of my parent alone, the YC would have that balcony and be quieter in general. My parents have stayed at the BC and loved it -- they actually liked walking down to the boardwalk and sitting on benches there, and also sitting in a lounge chair on the beach. Both quiet areas. But the BC rooms don't all have balconies...YC better chance of balcony. Also, at the pool, there is an area up some stairs that is a lot quieter than sitting at the main pool level. I like to go up there and read.

My final and possibly my best recommendation is GF. The lobby is exquisite, very relaxing with a piano player, lots of couches/chairs. Great shopping. We LOVED our balcony overlooking the courtyard....very pretty and relaxing. Expensive place, but can't get much better in terms of luxury.

Really, it depends on the 3rd adult and what his tastes are. Both of my parents love the BC and they would probably love GF. I have close friends whose parents swear by the YC, but it's not my personal favorite. All of these parents are age 70/80 and mainly hang around the resorts.

You'd be surprised at how cheaply you can get a one bedroom from Disney at SSR. I have serious issues with space, noise, and crowds. In order to be able to function I have to be able to get away from all of it. Hands down SSR is my favorite resort. I've found the other resorts listed to be too much. They are nice but for pure blissful quiet I like SSR.

I vote YC! You have your own private balcony (ours overlooked some woods, so it was very peaceful and quiet. There is also a quiet pool that hardly anyone ever seemed to use, because they were all at Stormalong Bay. You also have the beach on the lake that has chairs and swings. I loved sitting in the swing and watching the boats on the lake, very relaxing.

We've stayed at the Dolphin, POFQ, PO-Riverside, Beach Club, and Yacht Club..... my votes for relaxing are Yacht Club and Dolphin. Both have balconies (you'd have to make sure to request one at the Dolphin) and the beach areas are pretty. The lobbies in both are pleasant, too. Those two feel more "luxury resort" to me than others on Disney property.

Another vote for Animal Kingdom lodge. Down the hotel hallways they have some lookouts over the savanah that are just amazing - really remote, almost always empty, and so peaceful and relaxing.

I'm a DVC member and for me OKW is the most relaxing. If you're interested in a nice quite balcony with water views this would be the place. I would think AKL & villas with a savanna view would be another and Wilderness Lodge would be as well. I would have thought SSR would have been but last time we stayed there it was in CP and that was just awful noise wise and without a car the bus service was ridiculously slow. It was really loud from the balcony all day and even at night the loud music from DS until 2AM kept me up. Will never stay in that area again although I would love to give the resort another try because of it's proximity to DS but just not in CP. Stayed at POFQ last trip and I found that very peaceful and would think POR would be as well. CBR is another that I found pretty quiet but just not near one of the pools. The only thing about the moderates though is that there aren't any balconies.
