Hi all!

Hoping all you DIS folks can help me out... I have a friend that will be going to WDW with their 15 year old for her first visit ever! They are all so excited, but are wondering which resort is the best to stay in. They are hoping for 2 double or queen beds and either a trundle (POR) or daybed (multiple). The have to have a roll in shower.

Any advice or suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

Sue

A little more information would be really helpful. Is the 15 year old in a wheelchair? Is she able to walk at all; take a few steps? Can she transfer herself?

Is it just a family of 3 or are there other children?

What resort level would they prefer: value, moderate or deluxe? Handicapped Accessible Rooms are available at all these levels.

Oh, yeah, I guess more details would be good... SORRY!

They are a family of three, prefer a moderate resort. THey are spending three nights and then heading to over to Port Canaveral to see Captain Mickey!

Their daughter is 15 and totally confined to a wheel chair. She needs assistance to transfer, but can do it. The liked the look of POR - but were worried about the refurb activities. I haven't stayed there so I couldn't comment onthe resort...

Thanks again!

When you say they're hoping for a day bed or trundle, does that mean that they need 3 beds? Can any members of the family share beds? I don't know if they can get 3 beds in a room with a roll in shower. The rooms at POFQ with roll ins I believe have 2 queens but the rest I believe will be 2 doubles and I don't believe that any of the rooms with roll ins at POR have trundles as this would be a space issue. The moderates just aren't made with day beds and the trundle rooms are generally reserved for families of 5. If they need a 3rd bed then they really need a different category of resort. Even people who don't need accessible rooms can't expect a 3rd bed at a moderate resort unless they are a party of 5.

Yep, I think I would recommend POFQ since it has been recently refurbed with the queen beds. You are highly unlikely to be given a room at POR with a trundle, since as the PP said, these are held for families of 5. CBR still only has doubles. POR mansions are only beginning the refurb, so don't yet have queens. CSR is a possibility, but it's a really big resort to get around.

If you must have 3 beds, or 2 beds and a day bed, then a deluxe resort will be required.

A family suite at a value is a possibility, but I'm not sure if they have HA showers. And the rooms are SO small: I would think it would be a problem to manoeuver a W/C.

The rooms at the Poly have 2 queens and a daybed. And they do have roll in shower rooms.

Sue found us the perfect room at Port Orleans French Quarter. It has 2 queens and a roll-in shower. Two of us can share a bed, but doubles would have been too small. Thanks for everybody's help. This is our first vacation EVER!
