Which resort has the best Grand Villa?

We'll doing a 2nd stay in a SSR GV, loved it. But I think the VB Beach Cottage I booked for spring break will jump to the number one spot after that trip.

Thank you everyone for all of the great feedback. I am still wanting to try for a Grand Villa (either SSR at 11 month or AKV at 7 months) and my family is flexible on the time of year. Is there a thread that shows the least traveled DVC months for WDW?

DVC isn't like a normal hotel, there really are not true down times. The point of a timeshare is to have close to 100% utilization at all times. Now obviously this doesn't happen by chance, which is why there are different point requirements for each day of the year based on assumed demand.

I think your best chance of getting a GV outside your home resort would be just after Labor day in September to just before Food & Wine starts. From there I would say in between New Years and maybe mid to close to end of January. Outside of that it would be pure luck.

Less busy times might be in Jan after the marathon and before MLK weekend (only a few days there) or after MLK until President's Day in Feb. Then it gets busy until a week or two after Easter, unless Easter is early and Spring Break falls after Easter. Mother's Day weekend might be busy, but May is usually open until Memorial Day. Summer is busy, but not as busy as other time. Until about mid-August when many schools are back in session. Then early Sept until the last week of the month. Then it get tough again until early Nov until the week before Thanksgiving. Then it is busy until marathon week in Jan.

What are the chances of getting a GV @ OKW @ 7 months then end of January?

you want a time when the kids are in school, no holidays even close, no special stuff at WDW - no flower/garden, no food/wine

Late Aug
Sept (except around labor day)

nov - after food/wine but before thanksgving

mid Jan (after MLKB) to mid Feb

May (except memorial day week)

this one is more iffy
June - first 2 weeks

any holidays avoid the entire week.

Thanks. Just spoke to my DH and we will try first for May with September our second choice. We have time since my retirement is not until 2012!!

I agree with those dates. I got a GV at OKW just before the 7 month window opened up for the last week of January 2011. The big difference between a GV at SSR and OKW, is the OKW one has more room, and is more ov an open plan. At SSR, the dining room is seperated and seems small.

One think to think of with GVs; there are huge differences in the number of points required by resort...
