We are sending my son and his new wife to Disney for 8 nights for their honeymoon. Which resort is best for this type of stay,

Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort

or Disney's Coronado Springs Resort. I wish I could let them stay in a deluxe resort, but that is too expensive since they are flying from CA.

which would you choose and why? They can't decide!

Thanks!

I would do Port Orleans French Quarter (not sure why you didn't have that as a choice) or Coronado Springs. I've been to POFQ and it's beautiful and romantic. I have yet to try Coronado Springs but it's high on my list for it's brand new decor.

I've had the opportunity to stay at all three moderate resorts and hands down I would say Port Orleans Riverside is my absolute favorite! It's so calm, relaxing, and romantic! The food court is absolutely perfect, if they're night owls like my fiance and I then they'll love the opportunity to get some late night pasta. Also, we had a smaller pool over by our room, and loved that as well. We didn't have to worry about crazy kids splashing around us...That and it doesn't seem there's a curfew for that pool either. We could lounge and swim all that we wanted, it was great!

Plus there's a boat to Downtown Disney from there, which could be viewed as an extra perk! One last note, I've heard stories about the buses running from there aren't that great, but I never once really had a problem.

Overall, Port Orleans Riverside is always going to be my favorite mod resort. It's probably the calmest resort you'll ever come across. :-)

If I had to put the other two in a certain order, I'd give the silver medal to Coronado Springs, and the bronze medal to Carribean Beach. No matter which one is picked, I'm sure they will have a wonderful time! :-D

My fiance and I are going in September for our honeymoon and we are staying at Coronado Springs. We have heard so many great things about this resort. They completed re-did most of the resort recently, and the rooms have been updated. They are gorgeous. However, I am pretty sure whatever you choose, they will enjoy!!

Oh, you wanted reasons too. Mainly because it's the smallest and most intimate. Also, to me it has the most "grown up" feel of all the moderates. Almost (but not quite) like the Grand Floridian's kid sister.

Coronando Springs has been recently remodeled which is really good, but it's also the only moderate convention hotel, so in my observation it's often full of school groups and church camps and the like-not exactly romantic, but the facilities are nice, and the on-site restaurant Maya grill is delicious and rarely crowded.

Caribbean beach is fun, but it's HUGE, so it takes the bus a long time to get around the entire complex, but you can call the front desk and they will send around a golf cart to help you carry your things if there is one avalible. Also, some of the rooms are aging. If your son and daughter like the "pirate" theme, (as some of my 30 year old friends do) then this could be a good option, but it's not as romantic as French Quarter or Riverside.

Regarding French Quarter v. Riverside, I like FQ better mainly because it's smaller and more intimate. I also prefer the aesthetic. As someone who has visited New Orleans many times, the attention to detail astounding (though, isn't it always). That said, you have to walk over to Riverside for a table service restaurant, if that's something that is important to you. Riverside is much more muted and "Old South" while FQ is much more modern and lively.

Thanks for all the replies, The French Quarter isn't available for their dates, atleast that is what it says online... I'm trying to set this up for Spring Break this March. They were married over presidents day weekend, my son is in grad school in CA. When I said I would send them to Disney for a gift I was thinking Disneyland, but my son LOVES Disneyworld so cross country they go! So much more expensive but so much more to do.

That is so nice of you to give them that gift! They will be so happy!

Another vote for PO Riverside for all the reasons everyone else said - more grownup romantic feel and just beautiful and quiet. They can find the excitement at the parks and downtown disney (by boat!) and relax in a calm peaceful environment in their downtime.

I agree with the poster about Coronado being a school group/convention group place. I have stayed there and it was not my favorite disney experience to date, but still up to disney standards.

Goodluck with your choice!

have to vote for Riverside with its stately Old South mansions. very romantic. i think French Quarter could be very hectic during Spring Break with all the kids. Personally i found both Coronado and Caribbean Beach to be very expansive properties. if your room happens to be in one of the far reaches of the resorts, it will take forever to get to the main pools and dining areas.
