Which resort for extra night?

Thank you both for the input. What we're worried about is being let down on the first night of our trip. We are so excited to stay at the Contemporary and we're worried that staying at Pop the first night won't be on the same level as the rest of the trip and we won't be as excited when we first get there. Also, we would be getting there in the afternoon with no park time that day so we will most likely just be hanging around the resort that afternoon/evening.

Stay at AKL. What a treat it would be to just enjoy all that time at the resort without the stress of getting to a park or something. I would book a nice dinner at one of their table service, drinks at the lounge, enjoy the beautiful lobby, fireplaces or fire pit outside. Explore everywhere in the hallways, so much wonderful African art. TALK to the CMs that are from all over Africa. And hey, find a spot to sit and soak in the animals (if you aren't savanna). It's a beautiful unique resort like nothing else in this country.

Stayed at POP many times but I would kick off special at AKL, love it there!

I think it prolongs the excitement, but that's just me. It's actually in a very pretty area, too. Plus, you have access to two great food courts…you can walk over he bridge to check out AOA if you want.

I love The CR and The Poly (I am a DVC member with points at both), but I kind of like POP also.

I appreciate you taking the time to respond! We have stayed at a Value before and never once used the food court, so food courts aren't really a selling point for us

Thank you to everyone for giving your input! It has helped us talk everything through and decide. You would think we were making a major life decision or something Since we will be getting there earlier in the day and will have time to relax and enjoy the resort, we have chosen to go with AKL. We're looking forward to a leisurely TS on our first night and time to explore AKL. I think Pop would have been a better choice if we were coming in on a later flight.

I would not save money as usual and most definitely stay at AKL--you wouldn't have to leave the hotel for the day--plenty to do and great food to boot.
