hi all!

we should be closing any day now on our dvc resale:cool1:

dh, ds(age 9months now), and i would like to take my aunt, uncle and their three kids (boy- 10, girl - 9, boy - 7) on a trip with us. the 2brs all say they sleep 8.

which 2brs are the "best" ?? i'd LOVE THV and will call as soon as we're in the system to see if we can book but i'm sure they will already all be booked.

also, i've read some places that the 2nd bedrooms have a queen bed and a queen sleeper. other places i've read that the 2nd bedroom has 2 queen beds. is each resort different? i'd prefer a place with two queen beds since i'm sure those sleepers aren't so comfortable.

thanks for your help!

You can have 9 in a 2br in AKV Kidani, BLT, and THV. I know that I have a 2br this summer at BCV that is categorized as having 2 queen beds in the 2nd br. I'm not sure what other resorts have this. Have fun:thumbsup2

AKV Kidani and BLT 2BRs sleep nine because of sleeper chair in living room; however, all the others will take 8 with the 9th being a child in a crib. If you want to be guaranteed two queens in the 2d bedroom you need to either get OKW (all have two queens in 2d bedroom) or a 2BR dedicated at AKL Kidani (all dedicateds have two queens). OKW has the largest 2BRs followed by Kidani and from a room size point of view for a party your size, those would be best (BLT has the third largest 2BRs but second bedroom is smaller than OKW or AKV). At Kidani if you get dedicated it is a guaranteed booking category. Kidani also has a third bathroom. Thus, OKW or Kidani dedicated would be the logical choice if you want certainty in having two queens in the 2d bedroom. BCV has dedicateds with two queens but not all dedicateds do.

If points is a key issue then OKW would be the choice since those are less than a THV.

Note, you do not say when this trip is or your home resort, which I suspect may be SSR if you bought for THV. Getting OKW at 7 months is generally easy. Likewise AKV Kidani although might be an issue for a dedicated. If you are much less than 7 months then you might have to just take what you can get, possibly SSR, OKW or AKV non-dedicated.

this is great info, thank you.

i'm not sure what a dedicated 2br means. i've seen that term before on here.

SSR is our home resort :) we are flexible about when we would go with our family but we were thinking early december or january. either way, we're inside the 11 month window for THV so unlikely we'd get them.

sounds like akl or okw are our best bets.

Great info drusba!

A dedicated 2br means you have an actual "bedroom" with a regular door, as opposed to a studio (queen bed with sleeper sofa) as your second bedroom. Meaning you'd have a 1 br unit with the studio next door. Similar to two adjoining hotel rooms.

A dedicated 2BR is one that is only a 2BR with one entry door from the hallway. A lock-off 2BR (which all others all called) is a studio and a 1BR put together to act as a 2BR with two entry doors and a lock-off door arrangement (a door in the studio and in the 1BR which when closed lock-off one from the other) inside the unit.

Note, as to your mentioned time of going, early December will be the much more difficult time than January to get something you want at 7 months out and for Jan don't rule out yet the chance for THV.

For a large group, OKW is the best choice. The living room is so large that you can actually relax in it. As the owner, you get the master bedroom. There should be enough space in the master for a pack and play for your baby. Your aunt and uncle and their three kids will fit nicely in the second bedroom and the living room on the sleeper sofa. The second bedroom always has two queen sized beds, even with a lock off.

And the porch actually has a large round table and four chairs so you can eat breakfast or enjoy your morning coffee out there.

don't go with BCV - of there dedicated 2-bedroom only 25 have 2 queen beds - most have the queen bed and double sleeper sofa that you want to avoid.

great, thanks everyone! i'm chomping at the bit to get into the system so i can call to make a reservation. i'm definitely going to try for THV first and then probably OKW since space is important for us.

as a follow up question, if i go on a waitlist at THV, can i also book at OKW for that same week? like, say, "ok i want THV but book me also for OKW in case it doesn't come through." not sure how that works.

thanks for the info everyone. i really appreciate it:thumbsup2

Yes - this is waitlisting.

If the THV aren't available, book the room at OKW and request to waitlist THV. If your waitlist comes through, they automatically cancel your OKW reservation and give you the THV instead. We've had our waitlists come through twice so far (and still waiting on the third one with our fingers crossed!).

Good luck!

same to you!

how much time before your trip did they take you off the waitlist? can they wait up til the last minute?

You can choose to cancel the waitlist either 31 days out (in case your first reservation is more points than your waitlist so the points don't go into holding) or a week out. If your waitlist doesn't come through by then, you can always call each day to check on availability.

We've always picked the week out waitlist b/c our desired reservation was either the same number of points or more than what we had. However, if you had a savannah view at akv booked and wanted standard view, you'd end up with points in your holding account if it came through which would probably be a challenge to use.

For that many people, I would choose OKW!

Those rooms are ENORMOUS!! NO other DVC resort compares (in size) to these rooms..

JMO :)
