We are going next year and have most of our reservations, however there are two nights that I want to get a surprise room for the girls. All four will be celebrating their 16th birthday's withing a few weeks, One of them being my daughter. WE will be outside of Disney for 4 nights and the at the beach club villas for five nights, then two unknown and then to our home resort of OKW. I had thought of AKL with a savannah view for them and a standard for us, but my daughter seems she would really like the Floridian. Do you think the rest of the guests at the Floridian be able to put up with four 16 olds prowling around for the cute boys?? My daughter is one who really likes the best, I wonder where she got that from. We will have atleast one AP so I am hoping for discounted rooms. What do you think I should go for? I like the thought of the Floridian because they could do the Magic Kingdom those two days, since they will be near Epcot and MGM during the previous 5 days but I am not sure if it will be too 'stuffy'. That has always been what it seems like at that resort but it could be a misconception on my part. Please let me know if you think the girls would be able to enjoy the Floridian.

My opinion would be to let them stay at the resort of their choice. Heck, if your willing to pay for them to stay at GF, any other resort would be less $$$. I am assuming that you know you can trust your daughter and friends to behave themselves. I would hate to have a group of roudy 16yr olds next to me if I just paid all that money for a premium resort. Another thought might be one of the All Star resorts. They seem to be themed to the younger crowd. I am also a DVC member and would not stay at any other resort other than the DVC resorts. Perhaps she'll want to stay at OKW???!!! Sounds like a great time for all of you. Enjoy!!!!

The arcade at the Contemporary attracts a lot of cute teenage boys. They could walk or take the monorail to Magic Kingdom. Just from what I've personally seen....there were a lot more younger people at the Polynesian and Contemporary than the GF.:D

the ideas are great so far. I had not thought about the contemporary with the arcade. As to being well behaved. sometimes they are too well behaved. They are all athletes and live to the higher codes of behavior. My daughter is on a premiere soccer team and she is always traveling up and down the east coast. So she knows the hotel code of conduct very well.
A s for OKW, we will go there after this Friday and Saturday at a surprise location. See that's the other problem, I would like it to be a surprise for them, but also fun and something unusual, that's why at first I thought the AKL but when casually talking to my daughter she did not seem too excited about it.
Keep the ideas coming, there's a lot I haven't thought about. After I get some of these ideas I will have another little discussion with my daughter and throw a few of these ideas out. thanks

I vote for the All Star Sports! Ihave a 15 year old daughter who LOVES it there! Even better than BC, PO, WL! She almost always brings a friend with her, I get ajoining rooms, and they have a blast! There's the food court where they can eat different things as well as arcade! My 7 year old DS likkes it too!

Im 17 years old and I personally love the WL...the location is great and there are a lot of kids here my age. There are many common areas around the hotel which are good for meeting people!
Hope this helps...

What a great surprise for your daughter. We have 3 daughters, 14,19 & 21 & visit Disney each year. We've stayed BC,GF, Poly & AKL. The past two years we split our stay betw. AKL for 3 nights & then the Poly for 7 & this last trip in May they really were anxious to get over to the Poly. Only one of the girls prefers to stay at the GF. For 2 trips we also took my daughter's best friend . This past trip in May they really enjoyed the Poly. They had a few volleyball games with other guests on the beach, enjoyed the hammocks, & the pool. They say they love the tropical atmosphere. The water sprites are fun & the monorail over to the Contemporary arcade is convenient. When our daughters went to WDW with their friends on a HS trip, they stayed at the All Star & CBR & felt uneasy entering their rooms at night from the outside instead of a hallway,(shame to have to think that way I know.) For my daughter who loves the GF, we go to the tea room for the afternoon tea so that may be an idea also. Whatever you decide I'm sure they'll have a great time.

We have 2 teen DD's, and they love the YC. There is a great arcade, and it is a short walk to the BW or Epcot. However, since you will have been at the BCV next door, I would suggest either CR or the Poly since I have seen more teens there than at the GF.

JungleMansion made an excellent point from a safety viewpoint; interior corridors are much safer than exterior corridors, so stick with the deluxes, or AKL/WL. :):D:)

My DD has liked every resort we have tried, thus far! I would have suggested the Beach Club, but you are already staying there. How about a monorail resort? Perhaps the Poly, a tower room overlooking the MK in the Contemporary, or the grandeur of feeling like a princess in her own castle on her 16th birthday at the GF?

I guess I just don't like the inconvenience, and dark atmosphere at the AKL, so I tend to gravitate more toward lighter colors and atmospheres. Good luck with whichever you decide!

I think that as a young girl, or as a teenager, I would have gotten the biggest thrill staying in the Tower of the Contemporary and waking up to see MK right outside my window. You can't beat the conveniece, either! That would be my choice!

I asked my 14 year old daughter her opinion if we were taking her and some friends to WDW where would she want to say. Her immediate reply was the Poly. We stayed there this past June and really loved it. We have also stayed at the CR, Beach Club, and the Boardwalk Villas, but Poly is her preference. She likes the atmosphere on the Poly and loves being at a monorail resort. :Pinkbounc

Thank you all for your input. I had a discussion with my older daughter and it is between the poly and Grand Floridian now. We have stayed a number of times at the Poly so I am leaning towards the Grand Floridian again. I may still change to the Poly but the one thing that keeps me from going back is that the slide pool was very small, as far as I can remember. Keep the opinions coming, it is giving me some good ideas.:bounce:

One thing I noticed about the Grand Floridian was there weren't very many teenagers there. The "GF Guests" seemed basicly to be "empty nesters", families with small children, and conventioners. I met a few people my age and a little older at the pool one night, and they said that they, too, got the impression that there weren't very many people in their teens there. The place seemed really quiet, there just wasn't much going on at night. It looked and felt like a high-class luxury resort (which, by description, it is).

It seems like the families with teen children attract to the Polynesian and the Yacht/Beach Clubs.

If I was to take them to the contemporary, you are all convincing me not to do the Grand Floridian, where would you stay? they will want to be near the marina and rent the mouse sprites, or whatever you call them, they will probably also be spending time at the pool and game room and then lastly catching the monorail to different hotels and parks. It looks very spread out so I am not sure where would be the best to stay if I chose the contemporary . thanks

Just a little update on the Poly slide. They put in a new pool in March? 2001. The volcano pool is awesome and when we were there in Aug 2001 my kids loved it.(17to ds, 9yo dd, and 2 1/2 yo dd). Checkout Tikiman's site to see some pictures. I think your dd and co. would really like the new pool. Poly is my 17yo ds favorite resort. Easy access to the parks and the other deluxe resorts.

If I may make a suggestion, why don't you go to the Teens site on this website and ask there, you would be getting the feedback from other teens and I think they would know for sure. You're a great Mom for thinking up a surprise like this. Good luck!

I've stayed in the tower at the Contemporary, and the views are great from up there. It's convienent to everything but the pool and marina. It sounds like it'd be best to do the South Garden Wing. It would be a little walk to the monorail (out of the wing, into the tower, up to the 4th floor, up to the monorail platford), but it wouldn't be too bad. :)

18 YO DD says the Poly so then they could go over to the Cont and check out the eye candy. She loves the tropical theme. DS says Cont for the arcade but that they havesome game he and other guys like at the Poly. Cont has jet skis now though I hear.
