Which resort do you like in the dead of summer?

We are here now. Two kids are the kind of sick where they can’t go to the parks. One is alternating between crying and napping.

We did the only thing we could (besides get them medicine) and promised we’d come back this year.

Of course now I’ve looked at the calendar and really only time we can come is end of August. I think we are too late to plan a spring break trip for the first week of April.

What’s your favorite resort in August knowing there will be lots of pool time and getting to parks in the heat? We are at Poly now.

Assuming no money restrictions, I would think the monorail resorts or the beach or yacht club depending if the majority of your park time is MK versus HS/Epcot

check your bounceback offer since you’re there now. Sorry the kids are sick. That’s a bummer.

Maybe Boardwalk? My family stayed there this past July. The scary clown pool is great fun, the rooms are super comfy, the resort itself is quiet except for Friday/Saturday nights out on the boardwalk. Awesome dining options, terrific access to HS and Epcot.

I suppose in a couple of months after staying at Yacht Club, I might change my opinion.....

Since you aren’t able to really enjoy the Poly this trip, would you consider returning. My kids love the water play area and the volcano pool. Otherwise, if you want to try something else, I would choose another resort also on the monorail line. Hope your children feel better soon!

A monorail or boardwalk resort, for sure. Great access to parks with limited transportation involved and good pools.

My vote is for BC/YC or BWI/BWV. BC (or even BCV if you would consider a villa) is as close as you can get to EP and the Skyliner entrance to get over to DHS. It also has a great pool complex. BWI is also a great choice as it's still walkable to EP and close to the Skyliner entrance (it's also the closest to the walking path to DHS which is fine on an August morning - I would probably consider Skyliner or boat back in the afternoon/early evening however as it does get really hot. What I love about the BWI pool is that you can see your kids from anywhere on the pool deck including as they are walking up the stairs and waiting to go down the slide. The pool bar area is also right on the pool deck making getting drinks and snacks really easy.

Some random thoughts since I have stayed at all of the following with kids... The BC/YC has the best or one of the best pools on property. Depending on your children’s ages, I am still partial to the monorail resorts for convenience to the MK. Of the 3 monorail resorts, I think the Poly‘s Volcano pool has the best theming. The GF pools are usually the least crowded. The Contemporary always gets high marks for being able to walk to and from the MK. I like the setting of the Contemporary pool next to Bay Lake. My kids were totally unimpressed with the Yacht club theming. It has a more refined adult feel, so I may pick the Beach Club over the Yacht Club with kids. I love the BWI and the crazy clown pool, but some people are less enthused. Check out some photos online. I also think the rooms in the BWI are in desperate need of refreshing. They are a little worn and outdated. There also isn’t a convenient quick service restaurant with ample seating on site. My vote would be for 1) any of the monorail resorts 2) Beach Club 3) Boardwalk Inn. So sorry the kids are sick! Hope they feel better soon.

Yacht Club/Beach Club for sure. My DD10 loves the pool area. She would spend our entire trip there if I would let her.

Personally, we would never go in July/August as it is just TOO hot to enjoy the parks/walking and the blazing temps that time of year. Doubt that small children will find it enjoyable either. Every year at the office where I work, someone takes their family to Disney in the summer for the first time and almost always returns saying they would never go again that time of year since it was too hot/crowded/uncomfortable to enjoy their visit.....which I thought from the title was what you were asking. I don't really think which specific resort you stay at will make your park time any more comfortable.

We always go in July or August and have since the kids were very young!

Definitely doable as long as you take afternoon pool/resort breaks!

Any of the monorail resorts or BC/YC are my picks. We've stayed at all of them. Love the convenience of the monorail resorts for MK and love BC/YC so we can just walk over to EPCOT for dinner!

Off-site = The Four Seasons, has a beautiful water complex that is not too crowded. On-site = Grand Floridian, smaller pools, easier to manage young kids, and also not too crowded.
YC/BC's Stormalong is very nice as well, but often overcrowded.

If you need to spend less on this trip do-over, CBR is a great choice with a fabulous pool!

I would choose a resort that has a pool that you like. We spent quite a bit of time at our resorts during the summer months.

August is crazy hot, like surface of the sun hot.

But we have toured in August and I did get some minor heat exhaustion. It did take me out for a day. I thought that I was well hydrated. You have to drink more than you think.

We like to tour early AM, then back to the resort for a swim/nap/break and then out again when the sun sets.

You could also do a water park day or two during an August trip. My kids loved the Ski Patrol area at Blizzard Beach when they were younger, and it was easy to sit in the shade and keep an eye on them.

Absolutely the Beach Club. It is the perfect summer pool resort.

I always go in August! It sounds like your children are young so maybe one of the MK resorts. I would pick Poly, GF or WL. Love all those resorts for different reasons. And they all have zero entry pools.

If you’re looking at a moderate CBR would be a good choice. It has the Skyliner now which makes getting to EPcot and DHS so quick. Plus it has a really cool Pirate pool and a nice splash pad.

Depends on where you spend most of your time. If MK, I'd say WL. Pools are quite nice and it's not too hard to get to MK by bus or boat and the property is lovely with lots of shady areas and nice sitting area by the water. If Epcot/HS, then BC/YC (I'd vote for BC for kids - YC is more formally styled and has a lot of conventioneers). Pool is fantastic and there's lots of places to eat and it's easy to get to HS/Epcot by boat or walking. We stayed at YC at the end of last August with the intent of spending most of our time in Epcot with some time in HS so it was actually easy to go to Epcot in the morning, pool/resort during the hottest part of day, then back to Epcot or HS in the evening.

Summer isn’t a big deal for us either. You are rarely outside in an unshaded area for more than a few minutes.

But I would pick BC/YC or Boardwalk. Hot or not nothing beats being able to walk between your resort, Epcot and HS.
