Which resort do you like in the dead of summer?

I am so sorry to hear that your children are sick. When I was young and we were headed to Disney I got sick in the car, but kept crying and protesting, nose pressed against the car window, that I could rally...just take me to Disney. That was a big no. Anyway, we always go in the summer. It is the only time that we can due to schedules, so we make the most of it. We have stayed at BC and Contemporary with our kiddos, and are returning this summer to stay at the YC. You really cannot go wrong with any of these. My kids loved the pool at BC/YC (although make sure to wear your flip flops because that pool deck is hot) and it was something to look forward to in the mid-afternoon and early evenings. We also loved the contemporary. The pool is nothing to write home about, but there were fewer people, a fun slide, and it is right by MK. I hope that your second chance trip goes much better!

We don't do summer. Too hot!! The one time we did, it was for Star Wars Weekends (when they were a thing). We rented DVC to be able to stay deluxe and went with AKV at kidani village. We LOVED being able to come back to a beautiful, lush, green pool midday and cool off. The kids programming there was a great break from the heat as well. They have a LOT of activities for the kids early afternoon, and they get a bead for completing each activity, which get strung together to make a nice souvenir. It took DD 2 trips to complete hers, but she has every bead. A lot of people don't like AKL because of travel times, but we didn't fine it to be any worse than value or moderates.

That being said, if your kids wouldn't be interested in the animal themed activities and proximity is very important, then Beach Club or Poly would be my choice.

The resorts that scream summer to us are either the BC/YC or the Poly. Many trips we do a split stay so we could experience both. BC was always fun for us when our kids were younger....they loved the pool so much and we always loved ending our nights with the simple walk back and forth to Epcot.

Yacht Club!! Was there over July 4th weekend and that pool was a Godsend in the afternoon heat! Walking distance back to Epcot for dinner. And it is usually the first stop when sharing with Beach Club on the bus line so easier to have a seat on bus ride to MK.

When considering your question, it made me realize how many summer trips we've had! Not our preferred time of year, but it was either summer or Christmas with the kids' school schedules.

We've been at many resorts and pools and my kids seemed to like them all. The Poly was beautiful but the main pool seemed to get crowded. We really enjoyed the pools at BLT and the Contemporary. My favorite was Stormalong bay when we stayed at the Beach Club. AKL, WL and OKW had beautiful pool areas as well. The kids will probably enjoy any resort pool. Maybe you should consider how the pool will work for your own ability to relax and sit in the shade while watching them. To be honest, where able, we seemed to gravitate toward the resort's "quiet" pool so we could have a table with an umbrella, lounge chairs in the shade and have it not be crowded.

As for touring, best to do the parks early in the morning and in the evenings. Middle of the day when it's hot should be around the pool!

Sorry to hear your kids are ill, but a summer trip for all of you to look forward to should cheer their spirits!

It really depends on budget, and where you think you'll spend the most time. That time of year mid day breaks are essential so close proximity to the parks and your resort is helpful. I agree with all the others to do a monorail, or epcot area resort (if budget is a non-issue) Boardwalk is our favorite resort. We have gone end of August several times, and while yes it is hot the crowds are very doable. Also, if it's the end of August you could catch one of the first Halloween parties (albeit 2 months before Halloween...:rotfl:). A water park day is fun too in the heat of summer. Same philosophy, get there when it opens, and leave about mid-day.

We did a last week of August trip in 2017 and stayed at GF. I thought the heat was do-able (it actually wasn't any hotter than where I was flying from, nor more humid). That said, I find the heat in Florida at other times of the year oppressive. I've gone in October twice where the days were brutal, and in February where the heat and humidity at night was so intense during ROL that we left partway through. So, basically, we always take midday breaks because of the heat no matter the time of year, and also plan slightly off peak time dining breaks as well....say, we'll eat a TS lunch at 1:30 or 2 and then head back to the resort to rest in the room. Maybe swim late in the afternoon, then head out around 6 to a park. We bring water bottles and fill up at fountains frequently.

This plan worked great during our August trip, and GF's pools were really beautiful and not crowded at all. We're headed back again this August, same week, and splitting our stay between (probably) CBR to experience the skyliner and Poly, to be on the monorail. Same plan goes, we'll head out to the parks early in the morning and take long afternoon breaks in our rooms and at the pools.

Regarding good resorts for that time of year, as others have said, being close to the parks is really helpful. So monorail, YC/BC (my kids actually loved YC's theming when they were little...they're teenagers now). A skyliner resort if budget is an issue.

We stayed at the Poly late July 2019. We spent hours each day in the Oasis pool. We have reduced park time whenever we go to a few hours a day. During the summer even more so. We loved spending relaxing time at the Poly in the evening, watched fireworks from a quiet area. I really like the summer vibe with the tiki torches. We were also blessed with beautiful weather. That can’t be guaranteed any time of year.

We are here now. Two kids are the kind of sick where they can’t go to the parks. One is alternating between crying and napping.

We did the only thing we could (besides get them medicine) and promised we’d come back this year.

Of course now I’ve looked at the calendar and really only time we can come is end of August. I think we are too late to plan a spring break trip for the first week of April.

What’s your favorite resort in August knowing there will be lots of pool time and getting to parks in the heat? We are at Poly now.

Beach Club is our favorite summer resort!

We always go the end of August. We have stayed at the Poly, WL and GF and this year we will be at the YC. We also have a young son. We loved the monorail and the easy access to MK where we spent most of our days. We always took an afternoon break and spent some of that time in the pool. You can count on it raining at some point during the day/night and always carry a poncho. This year we are excited to be able to walk to HS as our son is now into Star Wars and we plan to spend a lot of time there. I’m a little worried about our MK bus ride as I know DS will want to spend a lot time there as well. You really can’t go wrong with any deluxe resort.

It may sound crazy with kids but we always did split stays between MK and the Epcot, so that we could quickly (10 minutes) get back to the villa. on long stays we would also add akl/akv A lot of days we would take 2 long breaks to cool down and enjoy the pools and other a/c activities. We were in a 1 or 2br for most of the parts so that makes a differnce also

I'd consider AKL - the pools ( at both Jambo House and Kidani ) are large and beautiful ( more appreciated by the adults in the party ). There are also a lot of activities at the resort itself for kids ( aside from pool party type activities or the game room, there are also viewing areas for the animals, night vision viewing, bead making and drumming.

The only down side is that it's at the far end of the property and not walking distance like the BC/YC/BWI/Dolphin/Swan or on the monorail like Poly, GF or CR.

POR. Great main pool, great quiet pools, 80% of the walkways around buildings in AB are shaded, well landscaped. The boat to DS is a nice cool down. Typhoon lagoon is a short ride from the resort to DS then TL.

Live entertainment most of the week either at POR or POFQ.

Beach Club. Best pool on property. Easy access to 2 parks. For a swimming focused trip I’d definitely choose that.

I’d also consider GF or Poly. Nice pool areas and easy access to MK.

For a moderate, I like POR- the AB section in the summer. The main pool has a lot of shade, as do the many walkways through the "swamp." We also really enjoy the many quiet pools, several of which are also nicely shaded. We spent a whole (relatively inexpensive) day at the resort using the pools, biking, fishing, and taking the free boat cruise.

spring is beautiful too, check your bounce back promos and see whats available then!

From my experience, I would say Boardwalk or Gran Destino Tower. Boardwalk particularly because of the closeness to Epcot and DHS. GDT because on our last trip when it was too hot to do the parks in the middle of the day, it was very enjoyable spending time at this resort.

My vote would be AKL. Nice zero entry pool, lots of indoor a/c walking space, nice indoor a/c gym...great restaurants. As u may be able to tell, I dont like to be outside in the heat of summer in FL, the humidity is a killer. I try to avoid going in the summer at all cost.:sunny::sunny::sunny:

I would return to the Poly if you can. I’m not sure about the BC/YC. It depends on how old your children are. The pool is giant and hard to keep track of younger children. The other thing to consider is if MK will be the most popular for your family. If so stay on a monorail resort. I also love AKL!
Like someone else mentioned check your room for a bounce back offer. If there is none in your room there is a number you can call. Unfortunately I don’t know what it is.
