Which resort didnt live up to your expections..

which disney resort do you feel did not live up to its hype...???

I see that you've visited a number of Disney resorts. Were you pleased with those? Just wondering as we have stayed at the CBR and are staying at the WL in May/June, 2008.

Thanks

Well, this is a weird answer, I suppose, but I have two.

Pop Century: I went in there expecting more of the same in the likes of the All Stars, except I expected it to be BETTER (cause it was newer, etc.). I came away wishing I'd stayed at the All Stars. The atmosphere at Pop was too crazy. It was too loud and garish. I like All Star Music, and for some reason, it seems so much quieter by comparison than Pop. I hated everything about the Pop. I just can't understand how people like it.

POR: I used to stay here when I was a young preteen/teenager and my family would go down. Back then, it was Dixie Landings. I stayed at POR in 2003 with my husband. We happened to get a great SOG overflow rate there ($69/night...couldn't pass that up) and I was excited to return to the place I loved as a kid. I had it all built up in my head and so I was talking it up to my husband for weeks. Well, when we got there, we were placed in Building 34 in AB...FAR from everything. The place seemed so worn down, old, and just in need of freshening up. I was so disappointed by how small the main pool seemed (when you're younger, things seem so much more grand). ;) The food court was completely different than it used to be, and it just felt strange to be there, like deja vu sort of. It was like I recognized it, but I felt like I'd never been there before. It was sort of sad that it didn't live up to the way I had it in my head. I sort of wished I hadn't returned there, because now those memories seem skewed...

Our first and only trip so far was Christmas/New Year 06/07. We stayed at the AKL and I was expecting much more in terms of the acual room. The Lodge itself was beautiful, but our room was very average with a savanah view. The pool looked spectacular on the website photos but seemed much smaller in real life. I was expecting much more for the big $$$ we spent, but in the end it didn't really matter as we were gone for most of the day and evening and only went back for bedtime.

We are going in 3 weeks and will be doing a split stay at the Poly and WL, and this time I will go in with lower expectations.

We would stay at a moderate or value except the beds are too small:sad2:

For us it was the Poly. It is beautiful at night with the torches and all but by day the buildings were just so so IMO. I also hate that we paid that much and still had to walk in the rain to our room. The rooms were fine. I like the YC, WL, and Dolphin much better. I even like the CR better in some ways.

Wow, I could have written that. I absolutely hated Pop. It was too loud, too busy, huge lines for the buses, smoke coming through the vents, thin walls - I could go on. I also wished I had stayed in Music again.

AKL. We had requested (and paid for) a Savanna view. The room we received was in a corner and the view was very lacking (i.e., could not see the animals unless we leaned over the balcony), we did however, have a very good view of our neighbor walking around in his boxers, (not a pleasant sight). :lmao: The room was also dirty and the noise from the hall was LOUD. We called to request a change and were haughtily told that it was not possible. It was indicated that we should be grateful for what we had (and yes, as I said, we were paying for a Savanna view)... I could go on but I will not continue to vent. I was so excited when AKL was built but I will not stay there again, mainly due to the rudeness of the staff.

POR. Its the one place that we had bad service, and it was really really reeeeeallllly bad at that.

I have 2. The WL was just not what I exspected. Transportation was bad. View from our deluxe room was boring. Other than the lobby I didnt like it. Others love this lodge but I prefer AKL over WL.

Second would be BC. Lobby was nonexistant but the room and view made up for the WOW facotor of a lobby. I preferred BWI over BC.

But the thing is you really cant go wrong in Disney they are all nice in their own way.

Polynesian. It was my second WDW trip in 1996. Everybody raved about it. Neither my mom nor I was crazy about it. It was dark and musty. We liked GF better, where we stayed on our first trip. Next time we stayed at the Beach Club, which we also liked. I then bought DVC at Boardwalk, so I guess the beach theme was more "us".

I hate to say this but it was the Poly. We stayed there 10 years ago for my 30th birthday. The room was very dirty, spiders/webs had to be removed from the corners of the room, the light fixture fell off the wall over the bed.....Captain Cook's was closed due to refurbishment and the pools were closing early because of the mosquitos. We were very disappointed with our stay overall.

Now 10 years later we are trying it again!. Even back then I loved the grounds and I know the rooms have been updated in the last 2 years. We want to be on the monorail and in 2006 we stayed at the Contemporary. Time to try the Poly again.

Pop, and the sad thing is that I went in with low expectations -- knew it would be a budget experience, and I was perfectly fine with that. Never expected that I would get so little sleep.

zzzzzz-WAP: our neighbors are shutting the dresser drawers
Wack, clack, clack: our neighbors just pulled some clothes off their hangers and that would be the hanger slapping the wall
sssssBOOOOOOM, sssssssssssBOOOOM: this would be everyone in a 5 room radius walking out of the room and instead of pulling the door to, letting the automatic closer shut it. And didn't all those people around us just seem to go in and out of their rooms about every 5 minutes. BOOm, thud, thud, shriek, BOOM, thud thud. *sigh*
KABLURRRBBBLE: someone just used the toilet
zzzzditditditzzzzditditdit: another person walking by with their rolling luggage and/or the maids with their carts. Forget afternoon naps.
WEEE-WEEEE-WEEEE: neighbors alarm clock going on
grrrbbble, mrrrble, weee-oohhhh-weee-oooh: neighbors watching a cop show on tv

I've stayed in a lot of hotels, motels, B&BB's, I've dealt with loud kids, outside hallways, parties in the pool, but I have NEVER had such noise bleed in any place I've stayed, including on other WDW properties. I might as well have been sharing my room with our neighbors or just been sleeping out in the walkway for all the noise protection those walls gave us.

For the record, we stayed January '06, 50's section, third floor, facing the parking lot.

The Poly Concierge, I so very much disliked it I asked to be moved to a 1 bedroom at the BWV! We went to disney for a month, and it was one of our weeks, never again!

Poly - even with the updated rooms in CL we weren't thrilled. It looked good at night when I took a quick tour before staying here. Seeing it in the daylight was different. What is up with the LOW shower heads? Why not renovate the bathrooms completely anyway? :confused3 They were renovating, right?! I'm short and I felt like I had to bend down to get my head wet. Yes, housekeeping was an issue (my buddy vacummed her own floor! I'm totally NOT kidding). The only thing that saved this stay was that it was a short stay and the CL members @ IPO came by to chat with us about our stay and tried to smooth it all over.

WL wasn't so great either, but I've not been since 2004. Their rooms are renovated and my stay at their villas was pretty good. Maybe it's time to give them another try.

thats a great description! :lmao:

A month?!

It was Saratoga Springs for me. We're DVC members, and this was our "last resort" so to speak, and they ended up putting us as far away from the main bldg. as possible. My son and I had a fantastic time at Disney together, but I hated the isolation of this resort, it felt like a huge condo and that was it. That was the last time I will ever stay there.

The other disappointment, but we only did lunch there, was WL. I don't think we'll ever use our points here. It was SO dark, I didn't like the villas at all. I much prefer light and pastel colors. Thats why I love the BC!!:)

Out of curiosity, WHAT exactly did you dislike about it? I am staying Poly Concierge GV for a week in May 2009. I've heard nothing but wonderful things...just wondering what it was that made you have such an awful time. Do you mind elaborating?

OKW. It's beautiful in every way, but I had expected it to be more "home-like" being a DVC resort. Hard to explain... I guess what it felt like to me was more of an apartment complex with an annoyingly long bus system.

What didn't help was there was a HUGE family gathering that was going on while we were there that took over the quiet pool every afternoon & made us feel quite unwelcome :confused3
