We are taking a trip to WDW this upcoming Christmas holiday, we are currently booked at AKL, which I have been really looking forward to staying at, but was just curious on opinions on what resort is the best at the Christmas season, I like bright and colorful decorations, then I was thinking the Poly since it is on the monorail loop. So, just trying to get some opinions here. Please share your thoughts and feelings, also any photos if you want. Thank You.:goodvibes

We just spent Christmas week 2007 (Dec. 20-26) at AKV. You will love it there!! On Christmas Eve, we got pictures with Mickey & Minnie (dressed in their holiday outfits) in the lobby. Santa was there too!

That is very cool, we won't be there for Christmas Eve but maybe they will be there on another night, do you happen to have any photos of the decoratins.

We love the WL at Christmas time :santa:. The overall lodge itself is pretty "dark" due to the out-doorsy theme, but VERY BEAUTIFUL, especially all decorated for Christmas ::yes::. It is by far the best decorated resort around the holidays, IMO ;).

There are three resorts at the top of my list:

1.) Wilderness Lodge
2.) Grand Floridian
3.) The Boardwalk

I vote WL as the best decorated at Christmas, too. (The gingerbread house at GF is impressive, but the other Victorian decorations aren't really my cup of tea.)

The Poly doesn't really do much for Christmas, though. As much as I love it there, I wouldn't choose the Poly for a Christmas feel.

Does anyone know what time Santa and the characters would be at the resorts on Christmas Eve - is it in the afternoon, or evening? I forgot about reading this before, and now might want to tweak my plans so we can see Santa. We will be at the Beach Club, so if anyone knows anything specifically from there, that would be great.

When we came out of our room at AKV this past Christmas Eve at 5pm, we looked right down into the lobby & saw Santa, Mickey, & Minnie by the Christmas tree. I have no idea how long they'd been there, but they were still there at 5:30pm when we were on our way to 1900 PF for dinner.

These are my thoughts exactly regarding the WL and GF ::yes::. And your opinion on the Poly at Christmas is just what I needed. We are booked at the WL in December (pretty much for the decorations :santa:), but our first stay at the Poly in September was so awesome that I'm driving myself crazy wondering if I should switch from the WL to the Poly :confused3. But I want that Christmas feel and wondered if I would get it at the Poly :confused3. So we may just stick with the WL and do the Poly next summer :thumbsup2. Thanks, AllyGirl :).

Does anyone have any photos of the decorations at AKL at Christmas?? I am thinking this would be a nice one too.:goodvibes

I agree with many on this thread that WL is a great resort at Christmas :santa: time. It is not bright but has a warm woodsie/cabin feel. AKL is not bright either. WL has a beautiful large fireplace with comfy rocking chairs in the lobby along with a huge beautifully decorated Christmas tree. We stayed at the WL in Dec of 2006 and LOVED it! I believe the WL also offers sleigh rides during the holiday season although we did not take one. You will have a wonderful time wherever you stay!

Yes it does. We just did this on Dec. 23, after having dinner at WCC. It was nice, but next time we will probably try the sleigh ride at Fort Wilderness. I've read that the ride takes you past all the holiday lights that are on display.
