Hello! I have just started really using coupons in Jan., and I often see folks talking about getting free/chea razors. Here is my dilemma and I am hoping I can get some good advice:goodvibes .

My DH has always used Gilette Sensor razors-but the refills are SO EXPENSIVE! yesterday I checked and it was $19 for 10 refill razor blades and it does not seem like I can ever find a coupon for them.

Is there another brand that he can switch to that is not disposable that you have seen coupons ordeals for regularly? I know I have coupons for Gilette shaving cream/body wash that I have used, but I would like to save money on the blade refills. My DH says he is "ready to move on" from the Sensor (LOL-he has used the same brand for at least 10-15 years I think!) if it means we can save some money.

Any thoughts? TIA!!!

walgreen's carries 'the zone'...it's a 6 blade razor...$6.99 for the razor and $6.99 for the refills. My DH has an average beard and he only has to shave every other day with the zone. He also dries his razor off after each use (thanks to Clark Howard!) and one cartridges lasts him for several months. The Zone is sometimes on sale for $3.99-$4.99...that's when I stock up, altho Dh hasn't even gone thru one full 4-pack of refills in the year or more that he's been using them. Never seen a coupon on them but at the price and the longevity, I don't need one.

Is it a Walgreen's brand or available everywhere? We have a WG near us that would be convenient.

thanks!

Ugh, this has been a major pet peeve of mine for awhile (that and printer ink...). I have yet to find a decent razor that doesn't cost a fortune for refills. I do the same thing with my razors that I do with my printers/ink.

I usually find the razors and a couple cartridges relatively cheap, and just toss them, or old on to them until I can find a sale or coupon for the ridiculous refills. I have a bunch of handles with no blades, LOL.

I am going to check Costco, I have heard those are decent razors with relatively decent priced refills--of course you need to buy 40 or so...

My husband likes the Gillette Fusion razor. Often there will be $4 or $5 coupons for the razor. I try to wait until they are on sale at Target... either clearance (my favorite way to shop!!) or buy 2 and get a Target gift card.

Also - most of the time you can use the "razor" coupon on the Fusion "kit" (has saving cream, etc).... a coupon on those...when they go on clearance....BONUS!!

Hope this helps. :)

Thank you! We are debating getting him an electric razor or sticking with the replaceable blades. He has to shave every day for his job and only skips shaving on Saturdays, so it gets a lot of use.

At this point I have enough Swagbucs to get him an electric shaver for free from my amazon giftcards I have earned, but I hate to get him an electric one if he is not going to love it and then have to go back to the regular.

I had been thinking of the fusion b/c I know I have gotten coupons for the fusion shaving cream and I thought I had seen them before but since it was not what we normally buy I had not clipped them. I will be keeping my eye out for them for sure!

i still suggest the Zone. My DH is a medical director and MUST be presentable at all times. Suit and tie kinda guy....with the zone, his face is smooth as a baby's bottom...I'm serious. It amazes me. And it's such a close shave, he only has stubble by the end of the second day.

I collect all of the coupons and watch the deals at CVS. I think the best deals seem to be on the Fusion (which the men in my house don't care for). I've beena able ot get pretty good deals on schick products iwth coupons and extracarebucks at CVS.

With coupons and sales, you don't even need to buy refills. You can just keep getting whole new razor kits for free or very close to it. We bought a lot of razors when we first started couponing about 18 months ago and we are still using them (guess we overbought a bit - LOL!).

Forget the zone if it's going to cost you more than 99 cents.
Combine coupons and CVS ECB deals to get cheap/free razors. At Walgreens combine your coupons with their RR deals. I have a shelf full of various razors and the most I paid was 99 cents. You need the coupon inserts from the Sunday papers and then use various websites to watch for the upcoming sales. CVS usually limits their sale to 1 per card/household. But if you have a Walgreens nearby you can stop in a few times in a week to buy multiples. A coupon clipping site or Ebay can come in handy to get your stockpile started.

When companies introduce a new product line they often put coupons out in the Sunday papers then a couple weeks later CVS or Walgreens or both will have a free after ECB/RR deal. Soooo then you can actually make money on the deal.

For example this week CVS has a contact solution for $8.99 get $8.99 in ECB back. There is a $1 coupon out there thus making you a "profit" of $1. Now I would NEVER pay $8.99 for contact solution when Walmart has their brand for just a couple $ but free is free and profit is even better. And at CVS if they don't have it in stock you can get a raincheck!! Walgreens does not do rainchecks on RR deals though. I've done the same type of deal on razors and made a "profit" of $4!

Walgreens has Gilette disposable razors for "buy one, get one 50% off" and I have a coupon for "buy one, get one free". Can I use this coupon to get a better deal than just BOGO free since they are BOGO 50% off? I'm new to couponing so any help is appreciated!

Both dh and I have an old fashioned safety razor. We bought it and the blades for it online. He used to only use gilette, though I'd jump around to whatever was on sale and now we're both happy. For me, it's cheaper (I get 100 blades for about $15) and honestly I'm happier about our environmental impact as well. I don't like buying all the disposable plastic stuff. You can also shop the sales, but letting you know this old fashioned option is still out there too :)

I think that CVS and Walgreens have the blades for Schick Quattro (Titanium) on BOGOF or an ECB/RR sale every once in awhile. If you use that with coupons, you can get them pretty cheap. At least stock up a little when they have the BOGOF sales, even if you don't have coupons.

I have found that CVS has the Schick Quattro blades on sale for $8.99 (the 4 pack) and then some ECB deal with that.

When they had them on sale (BOGOF) with an ECB and coupons, I bought a pack of 20 coupons on ebay and got 20 packs of razors for .99 each. I am about down to one pack of those left. So I had to buy them at Walgreens a couple weeks ago where I was able to get them for $1.99 each. Not as good, but still a good deal for those.

PS. The women's schick quattro and the men's schick quattro and schick quattro titanium all fit each other's base. Once in awhile there is a sale on the men's only or the women's only. Or, sometimes the store is out of one kind or the other. So, just know that you can get any of them.

I also know that the Gillette Fusions have similar sales to the Schick Quattro. You can go that route too, if your DH prefers Gillette.

I remember a thread awhile ago about sending care packages to troops overseas and one lady said that there was a brand of blades that fit any razor? I can't remember the name of it, though.

It depends on a lot of things. Be prepared that some cashiers will refuse BOGOF coupons on a deal like that. Ask for a manager if they refuse. Here is Walgreen's coupon policy http://www.walgreens.com/topic/help/generalhelp/coupon_policy_main.jsp?_requestid=37856

Anyway, it should work. Walgreens usually rings up both items for the regular price and then subtract off the 50% off at the end. So they will take off the full price of one of your items with your coupon and then 50% off one of the items will automatically come off at the end with the sale.

Thanks, Maggie! I read their policy and couldn't figure out how this scenario would work. I'm going to give it a try.

Your receipt should look something like this:

$8.99 Razor
$8.99 Razor
-$4.49 from BOGO50% off sale (the register will do this automatically)
-$8.99 from your coupon (the cashier will key this in for you)
= $4.49 OOP

I just made up numbers there for you.
