We always go in August and never make reservations ahead of time. We usually just make them the day of, BUT last year we ran into some trouble and lost out on a coupl of places becuae they were booked. I dont want that to happen again. Also we have never been this time of year (we leave next week) so I dont know how busy it will be. Here is a list of places we really want to eat at....

Libert Tree Tavern

Crystal Palace

9 Dagons

Garden Grille

Gullivers

Ohana

Fantasmic Dinner Package (Hollywood and Vine)

Breakfastsaurus

Rain Forest Cafe

The only thing that worries me about making them before we go is the weather. Even though I have a tentative schedule, we decide which park to visit by the day according to weather. For instance we go to water parks on the hottest day and may choose a day off on a rainy day (we have a 5 day hopper), so how do we work that out??? What do I do?

well, i would rather have PS and not need them than need them and not be able to get them. you can always cancel a PS if you see that you will not be using it. if you have already made PS before leaving and since you already will know the time, just plan according to be at that park or resort. you can still do whatever you have planned such as the water park.:p

I believe the Fantasmic Dinner package is the only PS that you have listed that will charge your credit card if you do not show up (or cancel within a few days of the PS), so why not make them just to be safe? In August, I would expect the character meals and many other popular meals would almost always need a PS unless perhaps you were willing to eat at an off time. Also, some are not too hard to change. For example, I had a dinner PS for the Rain Forest Cafe at AK. While at AK, we decided that we would rather have lunch there instead. We went in to the RFC at 12:00 noon. They switched our PS on the spot and seated us within 5-10 minutes, just as though we had a 12:00 PS. We would have had a much longer wait had we not had the dinner PS.

At Donald's Breakfastosaurus last week, we had a PS and it was very crowded; lots of people were waiting around outside for tables. I've never been by Crystal Palace when they weren't turning stand-bys away because they barely could accomodate the PS'ers and from what I understand, an early PS is almost always needed for O'hana and the Fantasmic dinner package. I am not sure about the others on your list. We always make PS regardless of what we anticipate the crowds to be like because you just never know. So if it's a meal you know you really want to have, you should always make a PS prior to your trip.

The general rule of thumb is you dont need to make PS before your arrival unless you want to go to one of the popular restaurants or a character meal or it is holiday, then PS everything.

Of those on your list I would recommend a PS for
LTT-dinner
CP, GG, Fantasmic, Ohana, & maybe the breakfastorous.

These are popular or character meals.
