Which Polynesian restaurant for dinner?

Which restaurant would you choose for dinner? 'Ohana, Kona or The Luau?

We are dining with a 5 year old and a 1.5 year old. We had a not so great experience at 'Ohana last time. We haven't been to Kona in years and have never been to the Luau. We're staying at the Polynesian so we would like at least one dinner there. THX!!!

What about Ohana breakfast? That would be my vote first. If it has to be dinner I'd go with Kona I guess. Maybe first seating at Ohana would be better? Seems they suffer from older foods and maybe that gets worse the later in the night you go? But really, breakfast is where I'd feel safest.

I've yet to hear a good thing about the Luau.

I think the Luau is really expensive to risk with a 1.5 year old. It's a long dinner. Ohana was also too long for my 2 year olds (it was just an off day for them, though). My vote would be Kona for dinner (and maybe a breakfast) and Ohana for breakfast.

If we were to do the Poly again, I might try the Ohana room service package.

GF is also really easy to get to :)

I would give 'Ohana another chance. I had a very poor experience with Kona myself. Menu choices to limited and just wasn't what I thought it would be. The Luau is very expensive and IMHO not be children under six.

Unless you think your 5 year old is going to eat $23 dollars worth of food, I'd pass on 'Ohana. I'd do an a'la cart place, like Kona or even Captain Cooks.

We really like O'hana, but I understand if you don't want to go back. I, personally, would not bring the 1-year old to the luau. Maybe try Kona this time? It's not great, but if you want to eat at the Poly, it fits the bill.

I would go to Kona. I like the Luau, but I would not go with a toddler. It is long.

'Ohana is a long meal as well, but it is pricy. I have never had a bad experience at Kona.

O'hana breakfast Yes. Dinnner NO. I tried dinner twice and its a total fail. In my opinion It is so bad that i would not even feed my dog anything from that restaurant. Plus it is so overpriced for what you get.

I would do the Twilight Feast as room service.
this. the twilight feast gets rave reviews and you don't have to pay for a whole extra one for your 5 year old, there will be plenty of food to share with two adult portions. It might even end up being LESS than going to the restaurant.

Kona fans don't kill me but I have never thought the food that great there. I have seen reviews otherwise but my sushi was cold and pre-prepped like supermarket sushi and I ordered the wings there and they were pink and bloody at the bone. I sent it all back and didn't pay for it but it wasn't the first time my food was meh there (just the worst). I am trying it again for breakfast since I am staying at the poly though. Breakfast seems a lot easier and I want to try the Samoan.

I didn't love Kona myself. Service was lackluster and the tables are crammed together. I felt like I was sitting on my neighbor's lap.
At least our food was quite good.
But, of the 3 locations OP mentioned, it was the lesser of the evils, so to speak.
Ohana would have been on the list but it's gotten rather bleak over the last year and with the current price, really hard to recommend.

I have Ohana booked for right when they open at 3:30 on my upcoming trip. Ohana has been "going downhill" for the last 15 years (except for the brief period when that chef was there, name escapes me lol) but I haven't been in a while and there are still some majorly stellar reviews. I'm hoping going at opening will help too - I have always found food and staff to be more fresh earlier in the night than later :) My backup was the twilight feast though!

Kids think room service while watching a DVD and having the balcony open is a special form of paradise.

(Heck, they think Dominos is paradise in these scenarios. Twilight Feast is a parent-friendly upgrade, especially if you have beer in the room fridge. :drinking1)
LOL... DGD would too. Anywhere but Disney.

I'd go to the Contemporary, Grand Floridian and/or Wilderness Lodge before dining at the Polynesian Village with your circumstances.

We did the Luau once, and I think it was worth doing once. It's not awesome, but a different experience, and I'm glad we did it. However, I feel the same way about Hoop-De-Doo, which most people love.

We've done 'Ohana several times, and although we think the dessert is meh (most people love it), the food, atmosphere (if you can ignore a bit of kiddie noise) and the live music is great. It gets a bit samey if you've eaten there many times though, so we're taking a break from it now.
