We will have one dinner opportunity to eat at the Poly (party of 3, 1 adult, a 9 yo, and a teen) and have read up on the choices here and on allnet. Currently on our MK day we have a ADR @ Crystal Palace and I was thinking of making a mono-run to check out the Poly and maybe eat a fast lunch @Kona Island Sushi bar. However, I'm now starting to think about switching our ADR to either the Kona or Ohana. We typically prefer gourmet style eating verses buffeteria food, but then again we will be going in January with shorter park hours so I don't want a 2 hour dinner ordeal. I am getting "worn out" thinking of all these details, but then what would I have to obsess about. You other dis addict know what I mean :lmao: Any suggestions? Thanks.

We ate at both during our stay and we actually thought the Kona Cafe was the best. The food seemed to be a much higher quality for some reason and the service was great. We would go back and eat at Kona again, but not sure about eating again at Ohana's.

I haven't been to any at the Poly, but we think we want to try Ohana's when we go next year:)

We love both 'Ohana and Kona and eat at both every trip.

If you are big eaters then 'Ohana is the way to go. It is served 'Family Style' rather than a buffet which means they bring the food to you and will continue to bring it until you say uncle. We love the food and always limp out holding our stomachs. The service, however, is not hurried which is fine with us because it gives you time to rest between courses.:rotfl2:

Kona is your traditional table service where you order from a menu. I would say the food is better quality and you have a wider variety of choices.

If I absolutely had to pick between the two I would choose 'Ohana but only because the dessert (Bread pudding al a mode with Banana Foster sauce) is hands down my favourite dessert at WDW.

just so you know (I wasn't quite clear if you were talking about lunch or dinner) of the 3 places you mentioned at the Polynesian, only Kona Cafe is open for lunch, along with Captain Cooks, the quick service restaurant there.

I'm going to Kona for lunch and then i cancelled my Kona dinner to eat at Ohana for the second time. It's just too good to only have once a trip! I love all their food and the atmosphere is so fun also. The food is amazing! My favorite! Too bad you can't have the teryaki steak at Kona for lunch, the one at dinner time looks soooo good.

I'd definately pick Ohana. We aren't typical 'buffet' style people either but loved the different choices at Ohana for dinner. It's a must do for us.

For quantity, 'Ohana.

For quality, Kona Cafe.:cool1:

If it's lunch then your choice is already narrowed down. If you go later and O'Hana is in the mix I would go to O'hana over Kona, having eaten at both and O'Hana numerous times.

One thing that I don't think that has been mentioned is atmoshpere... O'Hana wins in that category hands down. Food may be better at Kona, but O'Hana is pretty good, with large portions. Based on my limited experience with Kona they fell a little short for me, but we are going back with crossed fingers that it lives up to the reputation it has here.

Based on atmoshpere and the fact that the food is good and plentiful I would go to O'Hana if I had to pick between the two. You're going to the Poly, eat at the restaraunt that feels Polynesian --- O'Hana. Kona doesn't reall scream Poly to me, O'Hana does.

You have a valid point. 'Ohana enjoys a wonderful view of the grounds, marina, lagoon and MK beyond depending on your table.

I really wish the cuisine of Kona was served in the space that is now 'Ohana and the "activity" restaurant was switched to the space that Kona occupies. But 'Ohana is obviously quite popular with its "all you wish to eat" format and activities.
