Which points will be used first?

We are planning a stay with my in-laws who are also DVC members and have the same UY as us. Now, they will be transferring half the points needed to my account. I have enough points in my account to cover the cost of the trip but, when I call MS to make the reservation will they use the transferred points first or do I have to request that they do? TIA.

You should tell them that you want to use up the transferred points before touching your own points.

That's the plan. This way there is no problem when it comes time to bank any unused points.

This will work if the points are all at the same resort, or if you are booking inside 7 months. If you need the 11-month booking window, only points with that home resort can be used, so if the transferred points were from another resort you couldn't use them.

You could use your points and try to switch later, but I've never tried that and don't know if it's possible.

Good point. I forgot to mention that in addition to having the same UY, we both own at SSR. We will hopefully be booking/staying at BCV.

You should be fine then.

I'd make sure the MS CM understands what you intend to do, and then review all of the details including how many bankable points you have remaining in your account before you get off the phone. We've had mistakes occur and had to make several additional phone calls to get things straightened out.
