Which park? Universal or IOA?

OK, we're taking the plunge and not making vacation entirely about WDW! My sister and I are travelling with 4 girls, ages 10, 9, 7 and 5. The 10yo is a real thrill-seeker, the 5yo will be once she is tall enough (she's Chinese...she says she doesn't think she will EVER be tall enough!). Other 2 are middle-of-the-road and chicken. None of the girls are familiar with most of Universal's movies, although Shrek is a huge favorite...also, of course, familiar with Suess and, sadly, Barney. I personally kow NOTHING about US/IOA. Which park would you recommend for a one day visit?

Since you only have one day, I would suggest the Studios over IOA. There's more to do at the Studios for kids like ET, Shrek, Barney, Curious George, Jimmy Neutron, etc. IOA only has one area, Seuss Landing that would be suitable for kids.

I would suggest you look at these two articles and decide if there are some things there that your kids ones would like:

Another suggestion is to get the park hopper and do both parks. It only cost $10 more than the single park ticket.

If you only do one park, I definitely recommend the Studios over IOA. I think that the Studios is overall more kid-friendly but also has some thrills for any daredevils in your group. Definitely let the 10 year old check out The Mummy!

Anyway, I would concur that with the ages of your children and having only 1 day, The Studios would be the best choice. Almost everything could be done together, and there are no outrageous thrills. But, phamton brings up a great point, 1-day, 2-park tickets are only $10 more, and you could see most of US, and what you want to see at IOA (Seuss Landing, possible the water rides, and Spider-man is not to be missed) in one day depending on when you're taking the trip.
