I have two boys (12 & 14). My shopping is done for them, but I usually put $$$ in a card and put it into their stockings along with the gifts under the tree.

Now, every weekend me, DH, SIL & BIL get together and play board games. Sometimes the boys will join in and enjoy playing with us. Mostly my younger son. I'm just wondering if I should still put money in their stocking or take the money that I would have put in there and use it to buy a few board games as a gift "for the family"

What would you do?

I wouldn't take away a gift from an individual to give a gift to the family, I would do both. Maybe cut back on the amount of $ you give each and still get a family game for them.

I would go ahead and give them money. If they want games they will buy them with there money

Give the GC and buy the games as family gifts.

I agree. Give them their Christmas money but invest in a board game, too.

My family loves board games. The favorites are Pirates Of The Caribbean Game of Life, Dominoes, Jenga, and Monopoly. We don't get to play them very often (usually Christian keeps buzzing around, messing with the board or getting into things so that someone has to jump up and take care of him.) But we love nothing better than to set up our Star Wars Monopoly and play an all day marathon(until my oldest son wins--again. Must be that Darth Vader piece.) :darth:

I'm doing both.
I bought an Apple to Apple board game on sale at Target for the family. (We love the game but only my sister's family has it). The kids are getting GC in their stockings.

We bought Apples to Apples a couple of months ago to play on game night with another couple. We loved this game. It is great for kids and adults (OK I sound like a commercial ).

We gave Apples to Apples to our DD16 last year and she has never played it it. I think we'll have to crack it open and play that game on Christmas Day.:thumbsup2

I would consider the gift of games for you and DH and not the kids, so I would give them the money.

You are lucky, it is like pulling teeth to get my kids to play board games. Although we did teach the younger dd Euchre.

I want them to play Scrabble with me and they don't want to....I am game deprived.:sad2:

:rotfl2: "Game deprived" I'm right there with you. I love board games but now that there are only 3 of us to play it just seems pointless. Sometimes I can get DD16 to invite her friends to play, but really, how many teenage girls want to sit around the table with their friend's mom playing dominoes. I love Scrabble but no one in my family can spell worth a darn, except me, so it's no fun at all. Same with Trivial Pursuit. DH is decent at it(we are both very well read) but my kids? Clueless. Oh, Clue! They CAN play that well but I get very tired of that.

I am telling you.... That is why I broke down and got myself an XBOX360 for Christmas. You can play BOARD games on video games.:lmao: Although I still was NOT able to buck up the money for the used game on that quite yet.

Now I will admit I can go to my sister's and play with her however we mostly play cards. Right now it is Canasta since they are tired of Euchre.

The kicker is my dh is GREAT at cards. :headache:

I would give them the money and maybe do like others have said and buy a family board game in addition though. :thumbsup2

Thanks!!! I got to thinking about it today and I will probably still give the cash in their stocking but also get a game or two for the family.
