We are looking for something special to do on New Year's Eve outside the parks. We will be staying at AKL from 12/27 thru 1/2. Here are a few things we have considered. Please give me any advice and or recommendations on the following. :goodvibes

1. illumination/wishes cruise
2. sunset safari @ AKL with dinner at Jiko
3. Cirque du Soleil

I would try for a wishes cruise... I am sure those fireworks are amazing!!

The fireworks at EPCOT are amazing. We will be there again this year, best way to ring in the New year. If you don't want to be in the park itself because of the crowds, then an Illuminations cruise would be the next best thing.

We went to Epcot last year and the fireworks were amazing. I didn't like the crowd much though and that is why were thinking of doing something away from the crowds.

Has anyone seen the New Year's Eve fireworks at MK on 12/30? I know they do them 2 nights? How crowded is it?:confused3

We've viewed the MK 12/30 fireworks in 2007 and again last year. The park was crowded for the fireworks but it got less so after the fireworks ended. The fireworks on the 30th are the same as NYE.

We avoid the crowds on NYE and prefer to spend time at the resort. We really enjoyed the NYE Downtown Disney fireworks in 2007. We watched from SSR. Unfortunately, Disney suspended those fireworks in 2008. I hope they will return as watching from the SSR side of the lake was a nice benefit of owning at SSR.

We stayed at SSR last NYE and we were very dissapointed that they cancelled the Downtown Disney fireworks.

We did the NYE fireworks cruise at Epcot and it was amazing. They run it twice so double check that you have the correct time booked and confirm before your trip (mine got booked incorrectky the first time they booked it) Also make sure you are on the phone first thing in the AM on the day you can book or they will be sold out. We have also watched the fireworks from the boardwalk and there are less crowds and great views (and it's free lol).

I say the cruise too- fireworks would just feel the most New Year's eveish to me. Not that I ever watch fireworks on NYE , I usually fall asleep before midnight...But if I were in Disney I would want to see the fireworks!
