We are planning on staying at a DL hotel, I have stayed at DLH before and now there was a bit of a walk, but how close are the other 2 to the parks and how close does the monorail come to the hotels??

thanks in advance
Steph

In the old days of the DLH, the Monorail used to dock right there on the DLH property. Now, it departs from its station in DTD, takes you to Tomorrowland and then comes back to DTD.

If you thought the walk from DLH to the gates of the parks and back was a bit much, then you most likely would not like the walk to and from the PPH, which is across the street from the main hub of activity. Even though by taking the "short cut" to and from the PPH (going through the GCH lobby), the walk will be ever so slightly shorter than the walk from the DLH, it is not too much shorter. Really, the 'closest' hotel is the GCH in terms of proximity to the gates of both parks (and it has its own entrance to DCA), BUT it is very, very expensive (more so than the DLH by a mile!) AND you are not guaranteed to get a room that puts you near any elevator, therefore making the walk to get to an elevator a rather long one, thus negating any anticipated saved footsteps! So in other words, if you ended up with a room in the GCH that was way down the endless corridors, it would be almost the same as walking to and from the DLH or the PPH, roughly.

The Downtown Disney monorail station is closest to the Disneyland Hotel - about a 3-4 minute walk depending on what tower your room is in.

The monorail station is about a 6-7 minute walk from the Paradise Pier hotel. (Just walk out of the BACK door of the Paradise Pier and follow the walkway toward Downtown Disney.)

And the monorail station is about a 8-9 minute walk from the Grand Californian. But why would you take the monorail from the Grand Californian when you're only steps away from entrances to both parks?.....if you know what I mean. :goodvibes

Just so you know, the monorail can at times have long waits, especially if they are only running one monorail instead of two.

From the PPH, if you walk through the parking lot toward the AMC Theater, you can enter DTD on the right side of the theater and you're right in front of the monorail - minimal walking. A sweet cast member showed us this trick last month.

If you are talking about that path that is in between AMC and Legoland then it is not any closer than going on the left side. If you are crossing the intersection near the roundabout then it is a few feet shorter to go through the main downtown Disney entrance closer to DLH. If you cross at the crosswalk nearer to DHL the it is 100 feet shorter to walk in front of AMC rather than to use that shortcut. ;)

In my opinion nothing beats the Grand CA!!!! But that's why it costs the most. But to me you get what ya pay for, love it love it love it!

I also must agree about the Grand. Just depends on how big your wallet is. When we were there this last August, even though we had a DTD view and it was a long walk to our room, not one person complained about the distance. We were at the GRAND We were on the 4 th floor and 90% of the time it was just easier to take the fire escape down and up then it was to walk the halls.

I'm hard-pressed to say which I prefer between DLH and GCH. I love many things about each. For family, I love DLH. For adults, GCH is my fave. I'm going in a few weeks and opted for DLH because it's something like $90/night cheaper, and since I just stayed at the Grand in Nov. I'm willing to settle for DLH :lmao:
