which nikon would you take?

I am certainly not taking both, I have a heartattack keeping my eyes on one...and dh has NO idea how to use a DSLR. He says p&s is just fine and dandy.

I have a D80 and D40x. Obviously the latter is the cheaper (what an oxymoron) of the two. But when the 1500 dollar cheaper price tag excluded....which of the two would YOU take.

Do you want to take any lenses that will not AF on the D40x? Also, will you miss any of the features your D80 has such as a higher burst rate or second scroll wheel?

you know thats the thing, I still have 2 months to decide. (holy crud...2 months...thats IT!?) I havent TOTALLY learned all the d80 cameras features. But I love them both... tonight hubby and I were packing kids in the car, and my older son got in, and all that was left was stoller, baby and the nikon. hubby said, which baby do you want to put in? lol.

Since a fast prime is almost mandatory at Disney I would take the D80 but not sure what you have in lenses.

I agree with Jeff. I always want to have the most flexibility when I take cameras, particularly when I am somewhere where the shot will be important to me. Kids and Disney always create special moments. You do not want to say, if I only had my other camera, I could have gotten that shot.

On the other hand, with two smaller children every ounce counts!

A +1 for this!

The D40 set to auto would be like a p&s for hubby. If you are worried about theft or loss or breakage get a insurance plan for your gear its about $15 per 1k just call your local insurance agent its easy to get and worth it in the long run.

Oh yeah dont forget extra memory cards!!!

LOL... Its thier first trips, for me, like my 20th....

But it is the first ones in which I will have my babies...aka the Nikon.

I would bring the D80 and also get yourself the 50mm f/1.8. Great performer in low light for Spectro and the indoor rides.

I would also consider bringing both. You can always keep the D40x in the safe in the room (without a lens, the body itself should fit in the safe) as backup should something unexpected happen. I had a lens fall appart on my on my last trip.

I was thinking about that lens... I was eyeing it the other day... Now maybe I can justify it with hubby.

Speaking of which...any other lens recommendations? I am a lens lover and would if I could take prolly WAY more than I should.

I am always interested in why people select the glass they select. I am curious why you selected the 14-24 and the particularly the 200-400. That is a lens that is usually used for wildlife etc.

I have about 15 lenses, Most I do not track around with me. I keep a very select few with me. I actually do visit the praries around here and forest preserves so I do see plenty of animals that I love to shoot...
I dont know off hand of all of what I own, as most were given to me by my mother. Whom is a awesome photographer and I keep some of her stuff with me. I am nowhere near the photographer she is... I wish I was.

That's a pretty good line-up to have. I used the 18-135mm a lot until I had an unfortunate accident and the front lens element fell off.

I can see the 12-24mm would come in handy (at least for me). I'd rather use a 70-300 VR than the 50-200mm VR, but since you have the 200-400mm VR. WOW. That would be great at AK and DHS (for Indiana Jones and Lights, Motor, Action). I would LOVE to use/have this lens!!

Again it will depend on what you want out of photography at Disney. A longer zoom or prime with a fast aperture (an f/2.8 around the 200mm length) would be great for Fantasmic. A fast prime in the 30-50mm range (f/1.4 or f/1.8) for nighttime parades and indoor rides.

For the most part I only used 3 lenses on my last trip. 18-135mm (then the 18-70 after the 18-135 broke), 70-300mm VR and 30mm f/1.4. I used the 50mm f/1.8 sparingly (I liked the 30mm focal length better) and my 90mm f/2.8 Macro for only a few shots.
