I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I was wondering if anyone knows which month is the HEIGHT of hurricane season in Florida? I know, I know, people are going to tell me hurricane season is from May-Dec., but I was wondering which month actually has the highest occurance of hurricanes? Thanks!

Statistically, I want to say that September has more hurricanes making landfall in Florida than any other month. Of course, we may be talking 2 in Sept vs 1 in any other month. You really can't plan your vaction around hurricanes unless you avoid July through October.

Go! Have fun!! Leave the worrying about hurricanes to insurance types like me! :sad2:

Yep, September 10 is the peak - here's what the National Hurricane Center says:

After studying weather records dating back to 1851, they concluded Sept. 10 marks the day hurricane season hits its most dangerous point.

"The season is actually very sharply peaked around Sept. 10," said Colin McAdie, a meteorologist with the National Hurricane Center in Miami.

That being said, we have already stocked all our hurricane supplies for the season, which is only 9 days away now (June 1) - Florida has a hurricane supply tax "holiday" for certain items (batteries, first aid kits, generators, etc.) from 5/21 - 6/1, so you can at least save on the tax, and to get people to prepare in advance. :teeth:

Just remember that WDW has only been closed a few times in all the years it has been open. I think it's only three days, isn't it? I'm sure someone out there knows. Your odds are good no matter when you go that Disney will be open.

We were there for Hurricane Jeanne end of September 2004. They closed the parks around 7 pm 9/25 and were closed all day 9/26 (the hurricane hit during the night 9/25) and were open on time 9/27. I think that is pretty good (I think Disney has an invisible bubble around it when it comes to hurricanes ;) ).

I know that Disney was very accomodating and helpful to the people that were supposed to have flown out 9/26. I always felt safe in our room and they kept everyone updated on the progress of the hurricane and when we were "allowed" to leave our rooms through their phone message system.

I would not hesitate going again during hurricane season, have fun and leave the worrying to Disney!!

Keeping my fingers crossed for everyone for a "boring" hurricane season. We will be at WDW at the end of August and the thought of a hurricane is in the back of my mind.
