Hey Everyone! My family and I have stayed at 2 of the 5 moderate resorts (CBR & CSR) Last year, we booked POR, but then switched to CSR. We were hesitant that we wouldn't like it. Hahha. We're not big on cabins or camping in general so, FW wasen't really an option for us. But, what I want to know is what is your favorite MODERATE resort & why? Which has the best pools, shops, rooms, location, restaurants...etc. Thanks everyone!

I've stayed at POR and CBR. I liked them both, but CBR is my fav. The boat to DTD is nice from POR, but that's about it for me. I liked the beaches, hammocks, food court, main pool, hot tubs, storage w/in the room at CBR.

5? When did WDW get a fifth mod? There's CBR, CSR, POFQ, and POR right? I've stayed at CBR and POFQ and loved them both. POFQ had such a nice quiet vibe while CBR was a little more energetic.

Ft. Wildnerness is considered a moderate.

The good thing about WDW there's something for everyone. I personally prefer POFQ. I like how small it is. I love the fact it has one bus stop. It does share buses with POR, but POFQ is picked up and dropped off first. Most times the MK bus fills up in the morning, so you head straight to MK. :goodvibes: It also has it's own bus stop at MK in the evening. The hot tub is secluded, it's on the other side of the bar.

I have stayed at POR and CBR. POR is my favorite. I love the food court selections and the boat to DTD is fabulous. We love to eat dinner in DTD several times during our trip and taking the boat is so much more fun than taking a bus. I also prefer the theming of POR over CBR.

POR is our fav mod resort. POR has some of the best grounds going. The restraunt is good the food court is awsome. The main pool is themed nicely and the quiet pools are quiet. The boat ride to DTD adds a touch to this mod (yes pofq also). Piano Bob on select nights is great family entertainment. POR is always a good choice.

By far our fav mod is CSR. POR is my least favorite although I do love their food court. Last year we stayed at POR and imo was a big mistake. We tried to switch over to CSR but they were booked. I think the CBR is pretty but very spread out. Our room was the furthest from the main pool so we barely went to the food court or pool because we were too exhausted to walk after a long day at the parks. CSR is so beautiful and the grounds/pool are awesome. Either way, you can't go wrong your in Disney!

We've stayed at most of the mods and our favorite is POR. We love the mansions section. It is so Gone with the Wind looking and having the river run right in front is just awesome! DH loves it there more than going to a deluxe! We loved eating at Boatwrights. The boat ride to DTD is so relaxing and there are so many other activities there like renting a bike or a boat, walking the paths, the great pool. The resort is just elegant and we have such a great time there!

By whom? According to the DIS itself FW is considered in the Home Away From Home Category.

Besides that, the price of FW cabins at $270 for value season to $375 for peak season is as far from moderate as you can get. I completely reject the notion that FW cabins are mods, even though disney itself lists them as such on their website.

Heck, you can get into several Deluxe resorts for less than that.

If you go to the Walt Disney World site and try to book a room, you will see that the FW cabins are listed under the "moderate" catgegory. As for the price, I have no idea...never been there or even seen pictures of them.

We've visited them all and stayed in CBR and POR. Our favorite is POR mansions - so pretty, so authentic looking (it is the only one where pine trees fit the setting, unlike CBR where the non-tropical foliage kind of takes away from the illusion). They are all so similar that to us it is just a matter of personal preference - do you like old south, tropical, or southwest? They all have their plusses and minuses. Just go with what you enjoy and you can hardly go wrong.

The only one we do not like is POFQ and only then because of the clowns. DW hates clowns. Too many clowns. Gotta stay away from the clowns. (She makes an exception to walk or drive over to have biegnets from the food court, but we eat outside - away from the clowns.) :)

The cabins are considered moderates, but not because of their price. It is because of the amenities they offer in the cabins themselves and the campgrounds. Disney feels they do not have enough amenities to be considered home away from home.

We just returned this Sunday from our first stay at POR for 4 nights w/ a split stay at BCV for 2 nights. We were a little hesitant at first after reading reviews of bad rooms, but we were not at all disappointed. We were in mansions section Oak Manor and were upgraded to a waterview room almost in very front. Resort was absolutely beautiful, best food court, boat to DTD, peaceful and relaxing. Now as for CSR we liked it also but stayed before the rooms were refurbed although we did see a newly refurbed room while there. My daughter preferred waterslide there a little over POR and the rooms have queen beds and are very pretty. Casitas section 3 or 4 is a good building to request. Carribean Beach is very pretty and tropical but I do suggest getting a preferred room($15 more a night) because of how spread out CBR is. We haven't stayed at POFQ and really have no desire too because it just seems "too" small for us and the pool is geared for younger children. Ft wilderness cabins are more expensive and never stayed there as well. I would pick POR as our favorite with CSR as 2nd becuase of new rooms and pool. Never had a problem w/ buses at any resorts. :goodvibes:goodvibes:thumbsup2

Yes..I know...like I said in my post which you quoted....even though Disney considers them a mod on their own website, I completely reject that notion.

I reject their reasoning. The mods are mods based on price IMHO. The cabins have a kitchen for crying out loud...how is that not a home away from home? Plus they are, as I noted, more expensive than both AKL and WL.

Anyway, I don't want to argue, particularly since there is no convincing me otherwise. I just think the whole thing is kind of funny.:flower3:

We have stayed at POR, CSR and CBR. We by far LOVED POR the most. We stayed in the mansions section in Magnolia Terrace. POR is absolutely beautiful!

We have stayed at all of the moderates! (Except the cabins) This is how we rate them:

#1 - CBR - We all love this resort. It definitely has something for everyone in the family. Larger rooms, Disney themed rooms, spacious beautiful grounds, great food court with lots of choices, great CM's, white sand beaches with hammocks, lots to do & see, great buses, great central location, the best children's pool - it's a mini water park! And the best main pool with 2 slides, zero entry, and 2 hot tubs!

#2 - POR - A close second for us. Very beautiful and lush grounds, great food court with lots of choices, nice rooms, great CM's, lots to do & see, good buses, and a very nice pool!

#3 - POFQ - Very nice and small resort. Great if you are looking for small! We just really prefer a larger more spread out resort. Good buses, nice CM's, nice pool, okay food court.

#4 - CSR - Just not a good experience for us. We encountered several very unfriendly CM's, had a dirty room, and didn't care for the food court at all. We just didn't get a very family friendly vibe from the whole place. The buses were good, and the pool was nice.

Good luck deciding! :goodvibes

We've only stayed at one -- the CSR (we've stayed eight times now and about to book number nine). We have had wonderful stays at the CSR and everything has been near perfect. We have visited all of the other moderates except the cabins (like you, I'm not into cabins or camping at all). If the CSR were not available, our choices would be POR-Riverside (love the food court and a very pretty resort); POFQ (small and compact, but too small of a hot tub and no quiet pools) and last would be the CBR (hated the food court and the theme of the resort does not appeal to us -- the resort itself or the rooms).

In my opinion, the cabins fall into a grey area sort of like OKW and SSR. Both of those are considered deluxe resorts by Disney at times (I think they are classified as home away from home, however at times Disney sells them as Deluxe's). With so many resorts that are so different, its pretty impossible to pidgeon hole all of them into a distinct category.

So yeah, you may reject the reasoning, but that is how its done for now at least.

The home away from home resorts are now just the DVC resorts. Maybe they didn't want FW Cabins to be confused by some as part of that category.

My favorite mod is POR. I have stayed at all four of them and for me, POR wins because I love the grounds, the spread out feel, think it has a great main pool and its food court is huge for us. I also love CSR (its my very close second) but the food court at POR works so well for us with our teenagers its hard to beat right now. I also love the river and the boat to DTD and enjoy the two different exterior themes of the buildings. And its a close walk to POFQ's pools and food courts. I just missed the quiet pools and spread out grounds when we stayed there. But its nice to be able to easily visit it when I am at POR!

I think room wise, CSR has the nicest right now. They look gorgeous and the queen bed thing is beyond nice. It also has the most dining options, the athletic club and spa and feels very deluxe to me. But for us, the food court at POR and the theme is what makes it our favorite by a small margin!
