Which Moderate resort would you choose?

My dh and dd (3) are going to Disney in October and were going to book Shades of Green, however, they now have a 40% military discount so we are looking to book at one of the moderate resorts. We have never stayed in any of the moderate resorts so we are not 100% sure of where we would like to stay. We were leaning towards POFQ but have not decided.

Please tell me which resort you would recommend for the 3 of us? Thanks for your help! :lovestruc

I think CBR has the best kids pool if you are planning on spending any time swiming...also the grounds are beautiful. I just switched our August trip from Pop to CBR.:thumbsup2

Ohh you're gonna get a ton of opinions telling you to stay at all 4. I suggest you take a look at the themes of the 4 plus provide any needs or things you'd like at the resorts to help you choose. You really can't go wrong with any of them though.

You can read up on them here - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=236234

Personally I've stayed at CSR and CBR and like them both, we are going to CBR this year because of the new pool.

Hi Erin,

I have a 3 yo and 1 year old and I asked many questions when making the decision. We went with POFQ.

1. The size seems nice. Less walking to the food court, buses, and pools. I understand that the CBR is large and I didn't want my 3 yo wearing himself out just at the resort.

2. It seems quiet. I felt that after a long day of being stimulated with colors, sounds and people, it'd be relaxing to come back to a "quiet resort".

3. It's the only moderate I've not stayed in.

Decide what's best for your family. Only you know your family's limits and needs.

HTH! Good luck, this is all part of the fun!

I totally agree--you will get tons of opinions telling you to stay at all four or telling you NOT to stay at all four. I agree that the original poster should look at the fact sheets of all four, look at the pictures, and see which one fits best.

Our personal favorite is CSR (and we've not stayed at any of the others and won't--but that is just our preference/taste).

Check out my CSR website below for pics and info. CSR has queen beds for more room, full menu room service, a terrific main pool area and great transportation that is not shared with other resorts.

It is a much larger resort than POFQ but offers many more amenities that you can enjoy as well.

Do some reading on all of them and choose that appeals to you the most and has the most to offer your particular family. All of the moderate are beautiful and each has something unique to offer.

CBR would have a lot to offer you and your 3 year old. It definitely has the best children's pool!

We enjoy it's beautiful grounds, hammocks on the white sand beaches, quiet Caribbean music playing everywhere, a relaxing tropical feel, a beautiful bridge, island & lake, great & huge food court, friendly CM's, double sinks in the bathroom area with the most storage space underneath them of all the moderates and the LARGEST rooms of all the moderates! All the rooms have recently been or are currently being redone with a Nemo or Pirate theme. CBR is centrally located to all the parks and does not share buses with any other resort.

All that PLUS the pool can't be beat – it's brand new, very large, zero entry, and has 2 slides! The new children's pool is pirate themed and has several slides and a tipping bucket. pirate: They also have a marina where you can rent water-craft and it is open year-round.

The whole resort is like a vacation within a vacation, a “leave your worries at the door” kind of place! :cloud9:

CSR!! I love CSR for the atmosphere, great CM's and the deluxe-lite feel. CSR offers a spa, salon, full menu room service and fitness center not to mention a terrific main pool area and the best transportation that is not shared with any other resort. It's like taking two vacations in one. Queen beds too!

CSR has terrific transportation.

I've stayed at POR and CSR. POR was ok, but I LOVED CSR! The beds were super comfy, the staff was great, and DD loved the pool.

Plus, with so many conventioners there, we always had the bus to ourselves.

We usually stay at SOG as well, and I was worried I would feel too far away from everything, but it was really convenient. And I agree with a PP that it felt like deluxe lite. Loved relaxing in the hammocks!

I think for a 3 yeard old, POFQ or CBR would be awfully nice. I have stayed at all the moderates and my favorites are CBR and CSR. Oh yeah, I love POR too! Obviously I love them all. But my kids are older. If I had a three year old, the smaller size of POFQ would be a winner. Young kids love that slide and its the only slide I believe where a parent can ride down with the child on their lap.

CBR would also be a strong pick since it has the zero entry pool, Nemo themed rooms and the beaches are great for sand castles and playing. I also like that CBR has preferred location rooms. Its the only mod where you can pay extra to be guaranteed to be near the main area.

This is not at all to say I think POR or CSR are bad choices. Because they are wonderful, kid friendly, they have playgrounds, wonderful pools and are top notic. Adn the queen beds of CSR are a big plus. But I think the the smaller sized POFQ and the theming of CBR (pirate or Nemo) plus the zero entry pool are great for young kids.

You can't make a bad choice, I suggest looking at Buzz's webiste on CSR and checking out the FAQ threads on the others. And www.allearsnet.com has great slide shows of all the Disney reosrts.

Well, I don't think you can go wrong with either Port Orleans Riverside, French Quarter, or the Caribbean Beach...

HOWEVER, DO NOT STAY AT CORONADO SPRINGS!! Considering you have never stayed at a Disney resort before, do not let this one be your first because it will put a bad taste in your mouth... Something about that place just isn't very "Disney-ish" or welcoming.

If you have young children, though, French Quarter is probably your best option. It's much smaller than the other moderates, so it is easier to access the food court, the bus, etc. They also have boat transportation to Downtown Disney which is a plus, plus a great water slide and pool kids would love. In my opinion, that's your best option.

Matter of personal opinion (you can see many great recent reviews of the CSR, as you can of the CBR). We've stayed at the CSR seven times and have booked trips eight and nine for this year. We have had absolute outstanding service everywhere at the CSR--front desk, mousekeeping, gift shop, etc. We've gotten almost all of our requests and if we did not it certainly did not spoil our trip. Each person has a different experience. We have told son even though it is not offered when he goes for a baseball tournament that we would pay difference to stay at the CSR over the All-Star Sports or the Caribbean which are in the package.

I didn't really enjoy CBR because the size of the resort and the multiple bus stops were overwhelming for my first adult trip, but I'd like to try it again in a preferred room. I have knees with issues, so walking distance is my #1 concern. Therefore, I have chosen POFQ for my upcoming trip and am so excited about the size of the resort and being the first on and off the bus. (Standing on the bus is hard, too.) However, I don't really care about the size of the beds, and none of the moderate's themes seem really Disney to me. All Star Movies is the resort I'd choose if the theme was my first priority! I guess I'm agreeing with the folks who say to make the best decision for your family and have an awesome time! :cool1:

Thank you so much for all of the advice! So CSR and CBR have been recently renovated, is that right? CSR seems great but now I am nost sure if we should stay there with a 3 year old since it is so big? :confused3

The only small moderate is the POFQ--very small and compact (small food court as well). Both CBR and CSR are undergoing rehabs at this time to their rooms.

I know exactly how you feel. I had the same experience at CBR. No elevators, way too big and just to many bus stops. The CM's didn't seem as friendly as other WDW resorts either. They also have a fence around their pool and it opens late and closes early. I learned my lesson and will just choose another mod from now on.

Me either! CBR is my least favorite resort. The buses are difficult to navigate and seven stops is too many for any resort. This place is humongous!

Do you like CSR or CBR better? Since both are being renovated they sound like they each have their perks. What do you think?

I third (or is it fourth?) the suggestion to read up on all the resorts, look at some pics, etc to see what *you* like best :thumbsup2 Just about everyone has his/her favorite resort but you could have a totally different experience.

I'm one of the folks who happens to love POFQ (you can tell by my sig lol!). I have a three (going on four) year old so the small size of the resort helps a lot when little legs are tired (or mom and dad are tired of pushing the stroller lol!). I have never had an issue (re: mousekeeping, buses, food court, castmembers, etc) in all my stays there.

I've also stayed at CBR and POR and I don't think you could go wrong with either one of those. POR and POFQ are sister resorts so it's kind of a best of both worlds thing. And CBR is beautiful, we always stayed there when I was younger.

Good luck with your decision!!

Thank you so much! I really have read up on all of them and really like them all. I really can't decide between POFQ or CSR. I know CSR is bigger but I am not sure which I would prefer. We are going to try to decide and book it in the next day or two.
