Good morning, everyone! My husband and I are taking one last trip to Disney before our annual pass expires, and we are wanting to stay somewhere different from where we usually stay. We usually stay in a timeshare, or at one of the All Star Resorts. We are looking at the variety of the moderate resorts or at Shades of Green. Does anyone have any recommendations for which moderate resort you liked best, or if you think Shades of Green is overall the better deal?
Thanks for your help! :earboy2:

If you are eligible for the SOG and it will save you money, stay there!

I always wanted to stay at a Disney resort for the themed atmosphere. After staying at the SOG for $ reasons, we stayed there every time we could. The rooms are much bigger than anywhere else on the property and all are recently renovated or brand new. No tax on anything. The food was good and reasonable. The gift shop was great for sundries (cannot find cheaper ponchos on the property). Never had any problems with transportation. And how can you get more Disney than a Mickey shaped pool?!?

We have also stayed at the POR and POFQ. They are very nice, but for our $ the SOG is better.

Guess I will through in POR or POFQ. We stayed at POR, and this is our favorite moderate resort. I have pictures in my link "Christmas at POR". I am planning a solo trip in October and hope to stay at the FQ. This is the smaller of the two sister resorts. I think you might like it. Everything is close and easy to get to. The bus service shares with POR, but FQ is first picked up and first off. The pools are both nice. You can use both regardless of where you stay-either POR or FQ. The food courts are both good. The sit down restaurant at POR was nice for breakfast one morning. Had the banana stuffed french toast. Yummy. There is a boat that runs to DTD from both resorts. Very pretty at night. Great theme at both. POR is very pretty and well taken care of grounds. FQ has cool mardi gras theme and FQ buildings. I would definitely check out either of these resorts.

We have stayed at Shades of Green, Contemporary, WL, CSR, CBR, the Dolphin and POFQ. Coronado Springs is our favorite moderate, but Shades of Green is the best value on property. The resort is not heavily themed, but it's lovely, the rooms are very large, and you are just a peaceful stroll away from the Seven Seas Lagoon monorail. And the rates (and no $10+/night room tax) are unbeatable.

I have not stayed at SOG, so I can't comment on it's atmosphere (although I hear it is nice, although not "Disney") but I can comment on the price.

Depending on your rank, SOG is $72.00- $ 104.00 for a standard room right now.

Since you are an annual passholder, you qualify for AP rates for rooms, if available for your time frame, which may be only $79.00/night + tax (for about $88/night total, I believe) for a moderate (depending on the season).

You may also be better off than SOG prices with a "Code" rate, also, if one is availiable during your travel time. The code rate may be as low as only $89.00/night + tax (for about $99/night total, I believe) for a moderate (depending on the season).

Also, if SOG does not have a room available when you want to stay, they can get you discounted rates at the Disney Resorts. When we went in Oct. 2003, the rate for our moderate (CBR) was $89.00/night + tax (which totaled about $99/night, I believe.)

So, SOG isn't always the best deal, and if you are traveling in a Peak or Regular season, you may have a hard time even getting a room there.

Good Luck,
Cathy

POR all the way!!!

We've stayed at the Contemporary, CBR and POR and POR is by far our favorite!!!

SOG is wonderful and the rooms are very large. SOG usually is the best deal if your able to stay there. Even with the codes or deals (talking about moderates which the rooms are much smaller) it's usually not a better deal because with tax if you say $99 which I think it's a little more, only if your the highest pay grade would you be getting a lower price and not necessary a better deal (room size, food cheaper at the resturants and other things). Go with SOG it's great!

Just got back from SOG. It was beautiful. I thought it was a very good value.
