We are planning a return trip in October, we were planning on Contemporary but I am curious what everyone thinks of the MK Resorts. Major selling point for Contemporary is the fact it is walking distance to MK.

Whats your fav. MK resort and why?

I voted for the Poly because I like the theming best and have wonderful memories of staying there back when the MK was the only park!

We've stayed at all three of the monorail resorts and the Poly is my favorite. My boys like the Contemporary, too, though. I just see it as lacking a theme, etc. The Grand Floridian is lovely, but it's just not my favorite anymore. We haven't tried Wilderness Lodge yet.

GF is our fav. of the monorail resorts followed by the Poly. We just prefer the theming and it seems a bit less crowded to us too;) -- Plus no hot tub at the Poly. We have also always had excellent service at the GF. :)

We love the Poly theming!! Also you can take the monorail or boat to MK and you can walk TTC to get on the monorail to Epcot.

:flower1: We have stayed at all but the GF.... just can't seem to talk DH into that one for some reason!:confused3:

CR--- very large rooms, some with balcony, some without.. depends on what area of the resort you are staying in. If you are staying in the tower, try and get a room overlooking MK--- I mean, you only have a honeymoon once, right? The other choice I would make would be the south wing overlooking Bay Lake. We loved it! Every morning the ducks and pelicans would do a show for us... no kidding! Also, we could lie in bed and see the Electrical Water Pageant. Ask for a 3rd floor room, as this gives you the best view. The bathrooms are nice and big. There are 2 hot tubs here, as well . The walk to the MK is a nice factor!

The Poly--- hands down, my favorite! We just stayed there in Oct. We had a garden room, but it was on the 3rd floor of Rarotonga, beside the Great Ceremonial house, and our room looked out over the quiet pool. A very nice retreat at night.... literally, no one was there at night. We found lying in the hammock or sitting in the swings at night and gazing at the MK and GF very romantic. We stopped by the Tambu Lounge and got a drink to go. The pool here is a very nice zero entry pool and is a good size. There are no hot tubs, but just remember the quiet pool. If you want to go for broke, do Concierge...Mmmmmmm! Both restaurants here are good.

Wilderness Lodge--- beautiful resort with a very rustic feel. We think the lobby is gorgeous as is the pool. This pool was the last built before they went to the zero entry type. The archetecture is phenomenal. The rooms are on the small size, especially with the large design of the furniture. Request a King Sized bed, if they have rooms with these, as you will have more room to move around that way. Try to stay away from rooms above Whispering Canyon, as the restaurant, by its very nature, is loud and you can hear it in your rooms... not something you want to hear if you are trying to sleep in or have a romantic encounter before 11 pm. We only had 2 things which we thought could be better, and they were room size, :squeeze: and transportation. The bus transportation is likely better now that they have paired WL with GF instead of Ft Wilderness, but the boats, (which we were not aware of) don't start running until after Extra Magic Hour has started.

Grand Floridian--- eventually I will stay there, even if my DH has to stay elsewhere. I think it is the ultimate for a honeymoom. I have always dreamed of staying in one of the Turret rooms overlooking Cinderella's castle... maybe when I win the lottery!!! DH thinks the place is too stuffy for his taste. (must be a guy thing) I think it is gorgeous! The restaurants are all very good, and if you want a special (albeit expensive) dinner, make a reservation for Victoria and Alberts. Just remember to dress for this. Men must have a collared shirt and Jacket (I believe the tie is optional) and the lady must wear semi formal clothing, whether a dress or pants suit. It is very expensive, but anyone I have have talked to who has been said it was well worth it! There are 2 pools, one is the quiet pool, although since it used to be the only pool, it is in the middle of everything. The main pool is now located to the side of the GF, near the wedding chapel. It has a pool and water fall, and is zero entry. You may also want to treat yourselves to a couples spa treatment at the Grand Floridian Spa. Whether you are staying at GF or the Poly, you have access to the spas, hot tubs, etc at the GF. The beach here is beautiful and looks out toward the Polynesian and MK. The transporation here is also very convenient if going to MK, as it is the next bus stop. However, because you will be among the last to board, it will be standing room only... but the ride is a really short one.

What ever you decide (and really, with these choices there is NO bad choice), have a wonderful Honeymoon! :bride: :groom:

We have stayed at all of the resorts in your poll. There is something positive to be said about all of them. My last choice would be CR, my first would be GF. We stay wherever we can get the best deal. We have enjoyed every WDW resort except All Stars Sports.:earsboy:

We loved the Contemporary! My DW and I and our 3 kids (ages 9,6,3 at the time) stayed at the CR in Jan 2002, in the Tower. We got quite a good deal in the post-9/11 era. The short monorail ride to MK was a highlight for the kids each day, we even rode up front once with the driver. Each night we all sat out on the balcony watching the Castle change colors -- an amazing way for the kids to "calm down" for bedtime! Talk about magical. :wizard: The room was nice and spacious, my oldest DD slept on a trundle bed and loved it. The inside atrium view of the CR is breathtaking, from the floor the whole way up to the 14-story or so roof. And we did Chef Mickey's one morning, which was a total highlight for all 5 of us.

Try the Contemporary just once and see if you're not hooked. :earboy2:

The Poly is probably my favorite of the MK resorts. The theming is just perfect, the pool is very fun, and if you get a larger room, you'll have plenty of space.

The Grand Floridian just seems too formal and stuffy for a fun Disney vacation. Also, the prices just tend to be just a little bit outrageous for me.

However, my least favorite is definitely the Contemporary. The last time we were in there, we found it to look like a mall. Much too sterile and plain for my liking. The Disney touch just isn't there in the Contemporary.

The Wilderness Lodge is quite nice, but the location just isn't quite as good as that of the other 3.

Another vote for the Poly! We've stayed at all of the MK resorts, and the Poly is our favorite. We love the laid back atmosphere, the beautiful landscaping, the food and drink options, and the beautiful beach areas. Not to mention the Volcano Pool. Which, IMHO is the 2nd best pool at disney...Stormalong Bay is #1 of course. The Poly truly captures the Disney magic of old days. We've never had a bad experience there. The CMs are always wonderful. The rooms are always cleaned to perfection. I can't think of one bad thing to say except this.

I'M NOT THERE RIGHT NOW!!!

If I had to rank the rest of the MK resorts, best being first, it would go like this:

Poly
Grand Floridian
Contemporary
Wilderness Lodge

Here's a vote for Wilderness Lodge. We've stayed there twice and loved it both times. It is nice and secluded so a little more quiet than the others. And although the transportation isn't as quick and easy as the others, it is not bad at all.

Plus, the theming is EXCELLENT!!!!! You will fall in love with the Wilderness Lodge if that is your choice!

i voted for contemporary...i just love the hotel. I love chef mickeys, the stores, arcades and mostly everything lol

Haven't styed at the Contemporary yet, altho DD always wants to try it. Loved the Poly - real vacation feel to it. Didn't like GF - pretty resort but to formal for us.

I also like being able to walk from CR to MK, plus CR is a little less expensive if you stay in the North Garden Wing, which is closer to the walkway. If you can afford it, you might try the Poly if you like the theming.

CharityLynn,

I'm kind of biased (see my signature), but I have visited(not stayed) and my family has stayed at the GF and Poly as well. All are top notch resorts. No experience with WL, but have heard it's amazing. The only downfall I could see is it's off the monorail.

We like to stay at the CR because of nostaligia. My DD 4 loves the monorail through the hotel (and so don't I) and we always walk home from MK after the park closes. That is a great bonus for us. We won't be staying there night time because of finances, but you can bet if we had the cash, that's where'd we be.
