Which location would you pick?

We’re currently booked for our Alaska cruise deck 5 forward (close to midship, not far forward). For some reason this morning I started second guessing my choice - I originally picked it because it seemed centrally located, close to kids clubs and theatres, restaurants, lounges etc. Now I’m wondering if I should move up to deck 6? The main concern is possible noise being directly above the Walt Disney Theater, and secondarily being kind of far from pool deck stuff. The available rooms I’d be moving to are deck 6 further forward. Is there much of a difference, or am I overthinking things?

There is definitely sound bleeding from the theatre to the front cabins on deck 5 during the shows, but rarely if ever outside of show time. Unless you are planning on eating early and not going to the late show, you should not be bothered by it since you're out of the stateroom during that time.

For everything else, all staterooms have different relative distances to places on the ship. Deck 5 is closer to the kids clubs, MDRs, the shops and the lounges than Deck 6. But is one deck farther from the pool deck, which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, considering you'll still have to cross a third of the ship to get to the family portion of that deck.

We've been over the theatre on the Dream and Fantasy (not on the classics) and we worried about it initially, but it wasn't an issue. We were literally never in our room during those times. We were either at the show in question or eating. In the case of sea day matinees we were also either there or out and about somewhere. If you have small children that need a nap, it could be an issue for a couple of hours on sea days, maybe? We also heard what we were guessing was one of the outside performers doing a tech rehearsal/sound check late one afternoon before his show. That was it.

If you are close to midship you shouldn’t be over the WDT as that is more forward than the forward elevators. Also are there any midship staterooms on deck 5?

No there aren’t any midship rooms on 5 - I just meant that we are at the end closer to midship, rather than far forward.

It sounds like it won’t really be an issue - we have late dining, so we’d be at dinner during the later show anyways. No nappers and really only concerned about noise at night (we don’t imagine we’ll spend all that much time in the room aside from sleep). Thanks all, I think I was overthinking it.

I've spent at least a dozen cruises on deck 5 forward. My fav spot on the classic ships. Very little hall noise. Very little theater noise. We are usually near the entrance of the cabin area. There is more noise from the crew door across from 5020 and 5520.

We were all the way forward on deck 5 on our Alaska cruise. There was a Cars
PremEar during our cruise. So midnight showing in WDT. Thought the pictures were shaking off the walls! The rest of the cruise we were rarely in our cabin while the theater was in use. Some bleed of music but nothing bad, and done before we went to bed.

That would probably be the one concern - maybe that would push us to stay up and go to the late showing if we get a PremEar at Sea for Elemental (scheduled for release during our sailing).

If you have a veranda stateroom on Deck 5 you'll be staring at a lifeboat.

I was just going to say that we stayed in 5020 and the biggest issue was that darned staff door slamming all hours of the day and night. We actually complained after the first day and it turned out that the mechanism was in need of repair. They fixed it and then it was ok. Theater noise was not an issue at all!
