We are planning our first cruise in Feb. 2007 and would love help diciding which floor and section of the ship would be best. Also, I will be traveling with my DH, and 18 yo DD and 16 yo DS. Since we're using points we were thinking of a cat 10 since everyone says you are never in the room anyway! What advice can you give me? Thanks ::MickeyMo

Welcome the cruise board!!!

It is purely personal preference on which deck is best.....supposedly there is less movement the lower and more midship you are.....but that said we have cruised 14 times on DCL and stayed in just about all cabins types and on all decks in all locations and never found one to be really better than the other. When we don't book a veranda I love Deck 2 Cat 9's as it is quiet and close to most everything except the Pool deck which is just a quick elevator ride away.

Keep reading these boards you will see so many different opinions on everything....some can't live without a verandah cabin some love the inside cabins....it is all personal preference and you budget constraints.

We loved Deck 5. It was nice to have things on the deck besides just staterooms. This year we were on deck 2, it was fine as well, but I liked Deck 5 better.

Deck five is the best!! The staterooms are only forward and aft, so you have less hallway noise. It is very convenient, being right in the middle of the other decks. I have stayed both forward and aft and prefer aft (as far down the hall as possible). You can get some engine noise back there, but not much hallway noise. The secret porthole rooms are located in the forward section of deck five.

We went on our first Disney cruise in October and we stayed on Deck 8, Cat 4 and loved it! We had a verandah and now we are spoiled. We were in Cabin 8524 and were very close to the elevators and stairs. We were forward , but close to midship. Deck 9 is where we spent most of our time, so all we had to do is run up one flight of stairs and we were there. All the pools, parties, pizza, arcade and most importantly-ICE CREAM-- was up there. We never heard any noises above us or in the hall. It was Perfect! We were also very close to the spa! :-) Hope this helps. Have fun!

We had deck 7 mid-aft area (rm 7570) and loved it. No noise above, below, or next to us! We also never used the elevators. The laundry was just down the hall aways. Very convenient.

Deck 6... that's where my Cat. 6 verandah room was!!!! :cool1: :sunny: :teeth:

What is a secret porthole room on deck 5 forward?

We have a cat 11 on deck seven, right near the stairs....it is too late to change it...will it be really noisy??? Maybe I should bring something for white noise?

We may try to upgrade at the port.....but for the amount of time we will spend in the cabin...I am hesitant to pay more.

(I just quit work to go back to school full time, and even going on this cruise at all is a real treat!!)

I am just hoping that the cabin location/cat doesn't make the trip less magical!

Anyone ever stay near stairs??? ANy feedback would be great!

We were on deck 7 as well. Really liked it. We were not near the elevators, so I cannot comment on noise level. However, I did not notice a lot of noise. With a 5 year old, we spend most of our time on deck 9, so 7 was quite convenient.

We really liked deck 6. We where right in the middle of everything....up a few to the pool, etc... down a few to the restaurants, bars...etc.

I've been on deck 7 3 times now, always by the elevators, and never had a problem with noise.

I really like deck 7 because its so easy to walk up to deck 9 for ice cream and sodas... and can walk up to the buffet breakfast in the AM...we bring breakfast down and then eat it on the verandah... and the time I had a CAT 11 on deck 7, we used the secret Deck 7 outside deck, and ate breakfast or ice cream, etc...

Do any of the deck 5 aft rooms hold 4 people? I thought everything on decks 5,6 & 7 aft held only 3.

deck 8, right off of the mid-ship elevators. Only heard people walking by once or twice in the middle of the day. No big deal. Biggest problem was being TOO close to Deck 9 and ice cream :rotfl2:

In our Deck 8 Suite, we were often awakened at dawn by the clamor of deck chairs being set out & tosssed about overhead.

Next trip, we're moving back to Level 6, with cabins above & below.

They are sold as Category 10 inside staterooms, but they have obstructed view portholes. Thus, you get sunlight and little view for "free." These rooms can be specifically requested, but book them as far in advance as possible because they go quickly. They are #5520, #5522, #5524, #5020, #5022, #5024 ( 5522 & 5524 and 5022 & 5024 are adjoiners).

After 5 cruises on the Magic and Wonder I have been on decks 7, 6-2 times' and deck 4. Of all the rooms, we liked deck 5 the most and plan to return to it again. There is a certain feel to the deck unlike the long halled other decks. Art work and theaters and steps away. Easy up or down by stairs to all points. Very quite in the hall and from ship noises. There's a feel that the ship activities are only a few steps away. So I vote 5!
