Which items WON'T you go budget on?

thought of this because I have been sneezing ALL day....I only buy Puffs tissues. Mostly with lotion, but I do like the ones that smell like Vicks too.

I'm a Charmin snob. And I have to have Miracle Whip and Jiff.

I am a Coca Cola snob - I will only drink Coke or Coke Zero (generic is fine for other things like gingerale, lemon-lime, etc. Since I won't by the generic cola, I buy the Coke 30 packs at BJ's Wholesale club. It averages about 21 cents a can, which is close to the price of the generic stuff at the grocery store.

I will not go cheap on my cruise. I have only sailed with Disney. I have priced out Carnival many times but just can't bring myself to do it. Maybe when it is just me and dh but my kids love the mouse so we will pay the price!

Oh dear! Reading this thread made me realize that I am VERY brand loyal and picky. It's easier for me to list what I will "go generic" for than the other way round.

I never buy books or magazines for myself. I borrow them from the library. (I read the mags one month old when they turn into lending status).

I rarely rent grown-up DVDs. I *do* rent children's DVD because in our town, they are cheap ($1.99 with no late fees) and the children's DVDs at the library are always in horrible condition. We do often see movies in the theatre - that's usually a "date night" for DH and me.

Paper towels. Any kind, store brand, no-name generic is fine. The only thing I am picky about is that I always choose the "select-a-size" type.

Paper lawn waste bags. Don't care about brand, just a cheap price.

We don't have cable. (And in Canada, that's saying something!). We wait the 48 hours and download our shows from the internet.

I don't have a fancy cell-phone service. $100 prepaid for the year, and we're more than willing to switch providers at the end of any year.

I agree with many of the PPs. When we were younger, and just starting out, DH and I pinched our nickels until the beaver squealed! Cheap no-name (generic) EVERYTHING. The day we could afford brand-name toilet paper was a happy, happy day! But we have since found that in many things, you really do get what you pay for. For us quality is important because we are really trying to reduce our consumption. So I'd rather pay twice as much for something that last four times as long, than go cheap and make more garbage to send to a landfill.

Lets see...

Hand soap-I have to buy the foaming Bath and Body Works soap
Shampoo-That WHite Rain shampoo makes my hair look awful!

Got to have Perdue chicken, we have bought the grocery brand chicken before and yuck! Alot of my groceries I have to buy the name brand.
Got to have good chocolate too, Lindt and Godiva!

Dog food-Only Nutro none of that stuff with junky fillers.

There's probably other things I'm forgetting too.

dog food--only wellness or solid gold
paper towels--only bounty
make up--almost all clinique
tea bags--always tazo
cotton swabs--only q-tips

Pretty much everything else is budget. I buy Target brand ziploc bags, tissues, eye make up remover, vitamins, and contact lens solution. Trader Joes brand for mac and cheese, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and yes, even toilet paper (it's recycled and non-chlorinated.) I even buy generic tampons and pregnancy tests--CVS brand.

Good luck finding a station that still has someone to pump gas around here. I don't think I have seen a full service station in a decade or so.

The last time I had an opportunity for full service I was in NJ and there its required by law.

Yes - they're getting pretty rare locally.. There is one here near my DD's (where I live during the winter months), but up to the lake (where I live the rest of the year) there are five of them in the span of two very, very small towns..:thumbsup2

Why is it required by law in NJ? :confused3

Clorox 2
Era detergent
Jif Peanut Butter
Hellman's Mayo
Kraft Miracle Whip
Hidden Valley Ranch Dressing
Log Cabin Syrup

Reebok shoes for me
Tampax
Vaniqcream Soap for sensative skin, and lotion

Only Bare Minerals make-up for me!!!
And I do like the name brand groceries so much better that I clip coupons to make the prices more afforable.
I also do NOT like generic sodas.
