Which Is Worse/Better?

My neighborhood is full of "cookie cutter" houses... Exact same floorplan, exact same house.

The only difference is that CORNER houses are reversed.

My one next door neighbor's master bedroom looks right into our kitchen, and same with their neighbor, and their neighbor...

Our other next door neighbor is on a corner, so our master bedroom looks into their master bedroom.

It's not so bad, because nobody lives there! ;)

But I wonder, if someone did, would it be better to have a "view" of their kitchen, or their bedroom.

I say bedroom, even though you never know what you might see :rolleyes1, at least you don't have to worry about constant kitchen traffic seeing you in PJs! :)

For me neither is better. I dont want to see into any room in a neighbors house. If I had to choose my choice would be curtains!:lmao:

It's been a long time since I lived where anyone could see in my windows, but if I ever had to go back to it, I would vote for curtains as well!

Neither. I would invest in great window decorations.

Well, DUH! :rotfl: Obviously you'd have curtains!

But what if you wanted to open them and let some sun shine in ;)

My thoughts exactly. I don't want a view from (or into) any room of my neighbor's house into (or from) any room of my house. If given a choice, I wouldn't choose a house where that was an issue. If I had no choice in the matter, I'd be getting lots of curtains and keeping them closed!

They make lots of options for window treatments now which are sheer enough to let light through but which you can't actually see through. Maybe those would be a good option for you.

We have two windows, so we do usually keep that one closed. ;)

I just needed some humor, as I came home and saw my neighbor from my kitchen! :)

In my cul-de-sac, none of our windows face someone else's window (well, except the back and front, but that can't be avoided). Our neighbor's kitchen and dining room windows face our windowless wall, and our kitchen and dining room windows face our neighbor's door from the garage to the back yard. Oddly enough, it wasn't planned this way, but it worked out well. :thumbsup2

Well if I were in the position of that neighborhood, I'd rather have Master Bedroom to Master Bedroom. My logic would be that the neighbors would be less likely to spend a lot of time looking out their master bedroom window than their kitchen window, AND they would be more likely to have curtains or blinds in the master bedroom than the kitchen. And same in my house...I'd likely look out the kitchen window more, and be less likely to have closed blinds in the kitchen window.

But really, I would NOT choose to live in a neighborhood that had every house identical and that close together. Was the developer really that un-imaginative to not have at least 3-4 different house styles mingled in the neighborhood? Any new developments we looked at when we were buying out home all had at least 4 models to choose from and all came in reverses, and the builders would not put two of the same house next door to one another.

We all "look" a little different on the outside, but we are all exactly the same. I don't know what they were thinking. Thanks Urban Sprawl!

I guess if I had to choose I would prefer to see kitchen mishaps to bedroom mishaps:blush:

I'd rather they see into my kitchen! I just know that I'd forget to close the curtains one night and they'd see something going on.. or I'd get out of the shower and forget to close the curtains. I'm not the most attentive person in the world!

I never thought about it. Our builder had 2 floor plans, a single story, and a 2 story, and no pattern at all to how he laid them out in the subdivision. I have a single story, between two two stories. Lots are all the same size, and while the 2 stories are a hair larger, they are only about half as deep on the lot as the single stories, so no windows match up.
On one side, I have 2 bathrooms with small frosted windows, and on the other the kitchen and family room windows face the neighbor, with the kitchen window lined up with their dining room (that they only use for Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners), and a bedroom window looking down.
We rarely open those windows, and they rarely opens theirs, so it isn't an issue.
