Which is the better week?

Crowd wise, do you think the week of January 13th would be better than the next week, January 20th, or vice versa?

I would go the week of Jan. 13 because the following weekend and Monday (20th) is Martin Luther King weekend and Day. Could be crowded. Both weeks are usually low attendance after the big holidays.

In between the two weeks is a holiday weekend and the Tink half marathon.

Don't know if you saw the updated ride closure/refurb list or not. It might make a difference.

Crowds will be really low both weeks, and that's why the number of big attractions down during that time is so high:

In addition to Big Thunder Mtn being down, the following is a projected list (which could change at any time, and possibly already has):

 Jan. 6-Feb. 13, 2014: Fantasmic! River Show will be closed.
 Jan. 6-May, 22, 2014: Alice in Wonderland will be closed.
 Jan. 6-Sept. 26, 2014: Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage will be closed for
refurbishment.
 Jan. 7-17, 2014: Haunted Mansion will be closed.
 Jan. 21-Feb. 4, 2014: it’s a small world will be closed.
 Jan. 21-Feb. 28, 2014: Splash Mountain will be closed for refurbishment.
 Jan. 27-Feb. 13, 2014: Pirates of the Caribbean will be closed for refurbishment.

 Now-Nov. 22, 2014: Flik’s Flyers will be closed for refurbishment.
 Now-Jan. 1, 2014: Tower of Terror will operate at reduced capacity during routine
maintenance.
 Jan. 6-16, 2014: Buena Vista West Guest Restrooms will be closed.
 Jan. 6-Feb. 13, 2014: Grizzly River Run will be closed.
 Jan. 6-Feb. 27, 2014: Redwood Creek Challenge Trail will be closed.
 Jan. 7-16, 2014: World of Color will be closed.

Pretty rough time to be there, in my opinion, but I couldn't imagine missing Fantasmic and WOC. (I don't get down there very often.)

Yeah, I am trying to plan it where we can see as much as possible. I can only go in the month of January as I start back to school at the end of the month. I am very disappointed to see that the submarines will be down :(

So, I'm planning to go either the week of January 13th (Parks 14th - 17th) or the week of the 20th (driving there on the 19th, parks 20th - 22nd). I'm worried about Friday the 17th being packed because of the three day weekend and the marathon on Sunday, but the same can be said for MLK Jr. Day. I just want to be able to get Splash and IASW in before they close and go on HM once it's open (so either on the day it reopens, or after).

So stressed!!!!!!

What do you think?

If it were just me, I wouldn't be so worried about crowds, but I'm taking a two-year-old and his impatient mother! (Though she is getting excited about it)

Okay...so this is the third thread about what dates you should go.
In a previous thread, you mentioned your SIL and Nephew would like to go on HM. If that is the case, I would choose the later dates because the HM is not scheduled to open until 1/18...so you will likely miss it.

Everything I've seen says HM is reopening on the 17th. Where did you see the 18th? I'm sorry I've posted so many threads about dates. I'm just going so crazy trying to plan the perfect trip in a short amount of time. It's extra stressful because I can only go in January. If we don't go then, who knows when/if we'll get another chance anytime relatively soon.

You could probably just keep posting in your previous threads and people would see them :)

And there is no such thing as a perfect trip. If you set those expectations, you will be let down every single time.

:thumbsup2

The refurb shows it down 1/7-17 which would mean reopening scheduled for the 18th.

Again, I apologize for all the date threads. I know getting so worked up is crazy, but I swear the more stressed I get, the better things turn out! It has been like that my whole life. I think we have decided to drive down on the 19th.

No worries....Just don't stress too much. You are going to have a great time.

Thanks. I know I just said we were going on the 19th, but I saw the NAMM starts the 23rd and I'm scared convention goers will bring their families a few days ahead and attend the parks. I guess we are just going to have to miss HM.

I'm sure you, the two year old and their impatient mom will have a great time!!!

During the beginning of the week, Monday through Thursday seems to have the fewest guests in the parks. So few at times, the FP machines aren't in use.

Many are finding there is no "PERFECT Slow Time" of the year as there was in the past.

Just pick a date and go for it!!!! Be prepared for crowds when you're there.
Remember there is only so much in your control when you are at Disneyland.

However, if you must..... Continue to stress out.... You know what works for you.

Wait. I'm confused on what help you are looking for at this point. Three hours before posting this reply, you replied to another of your threads that you had settled on dates. Are you changing them again? What additional info are you looking to receive to help? I think you just need to pick a week and roll with it at this point. Going in January means something will be down at one point. Prioritize whatever you think will be best for you, your SIL, and nephew and just plan accordingly. :)

Based on the threads OP has posted, they seem set on the week of the 13th...even though other members of her party really want to ride HM...which will be closed during that week. Each time I try and suggest the week of the 20th so they can experience ALL of the rides her family would like experience, there are excuses as to why it won't work....now it is that the NAMM convention begins 3 days after they would leave.
Personally, I think crowd wise they will be equal. Obviously, Friday will eventually get busier as the day goes on compared to the weekdays, but there will be longer hours on a Friday...plus the option of viewing fireworks.

For some reason, I was thinking HM would be reopening on Friday the 17th, so we could do it that day if we went the week of the 13th. My mom doesn't want to be there on Monday the 20th as she's scared of it being packed (as am I, but then again, it would only be our first day). I haven't found anything that says MLK Jr. Day causes crowd problems (except from one website), but the marathon is the Sunday before and I know the NAMM brings a lot of people to the convention center. It starts on the 23rd and we would be going to the parks the 20th - 23rd or 24th. I've read stuff that says NAMM doesn't cause a problem and I've read stuff that says NAMM does cause a problem. Plus I know Disney offers special tickets to convention goers that are good from January 19th - 30th. I know the actual convention wouldn't be going on until our last day(s), but my mom put it in my head that the convention goers are going to bring their families the days before and all go to Disneyland! I know I sound crazy. If it were just me going, I wouldn't be freaking out like this, but I'm going to have four other people with me, and none of them are huge Disney fans (and two of them have never been before). I know I can't magically create a "perfect" trip, but I just want them all to love it as much as I do.

I know my paranoia about crowds is extreme, but like I said, it's because of who I'm going with. I'm used to waiting in lines as I've been to Disneyland many times and the queues are fun, but we'll have a two-year-old with us and his parents who have expressed to me that crowd levels and line times will determine whether or not they like the park at all! I didn't want the parents to come and I have tried to gently convince them to do something else instead, but they want to be there for their son's first time (naturally), so I've become fixated on crowd levels.

Sorry, but if crowds and wait times are going to dictate whether they are going to enjoy the parks are not...you are already going to lose. There is no "off season" for DLR really anymore so there will be lines and waiting regardless of when anyone goes.
The 20th will likely be busy due to the holiday, but the rest of the week has a lower crowd predictions than the week before (if you buy into that stuff). I don't think NAMM will have too much impact until the weekend.

I will respond since my family went during this time earlier this year in Jan. We are from AZ & pulled my 5 kids out of school as this trip was their Christmas present.:)
Anyways, our first day was MLK day but b/c we drove we didn't go into the parks until around 2-3pm. Yes, it was crowded but we were taking it easy & only had a few must-dos. Mainly Splash & IASW plus parade & fireworks if my kids could handle it that late. It was awesome! We also went the following Tues-Fri and crowds were low. Best time to go IMHO. :) We got 2 sets of fast passes for RSR on 2 separate days!

Hope this helps! Feel free to ask any ?'s you may have:)
